“This is a fantastic property, and we had a great time there, but unfortunately it was spoiled by a number of issues.”
Bachcare (a subsidiary of Sykes Cottage U.K.) informed us just 6 days before we were to move in that we would have to pay an additional $375 for linen and towels, despite the receipt for our booking, made more than 7 months earlier, stating âProvides linen and towelsâ and our clear understanding that was part of the deal. Bachcare (a subsidiary of Sykes Cottage U.K.) informed us just 6 days before we were to move in that we would have to pay an additional $375 for linen and towels, despite the receipt for our booking, made more than 7 months earlier, stating âProvides linen and towelsâ and our clear understanding that was part of the deal. Their âreviewâ of the decision to charge us extra seemed to be little more than the same people making the same decision again. During our stay our party experienced splinters from the wooden decking (some of whom required medical treatment) and a BBQ that was unusable because it had not been properly cleaned. If you are considering staying there it is also worth being aware that because bedrooms are up or down quite steep stairs from the living area, it would be difficult for people with mobility problems. While the house has an exceptional view over the Nelson bay all the way to the mountains, the cost for that is that you are forced to use a car even to get a bottle of milk or go to the beach: it is a long steep climb up the hill for walkers or cyclists. But if these are not a problem for you, you can have a great time there too.

Georgina “We had a week-long stay at the Eagles nest.”
Unfortunately, when we arrived, there was a leak in the downstairs kitchen ceiling. Following a bit of an uncertain period where we weren't sure if we could stay or not, we requested to stay as we needed a place with 10 separate bedrooms for our guests, space for them (as we were mostly going to be in the house for the week), and we had unpacked $700 worth of shopping into the fridge/pantry which we weren't keen to unpack. Additionally, finding an alternative at the last minute would likely not have worked for what we needed. We did surprise the property manager by being there earlier than usual check in time (which we had ok'd with the owner) but the message didnt get through. The property manager gave me her mobile number and she was fantastic at answering my messages and getting tradespeople out to the property to attend to the leaking ceiling. The Eagles nest undoubtedly at one time could be considered high-end accommodation; however, the property is starting to become run down and in need of some maintenance. The pool table has a large tear in the fabric, there are holes in the walls where curtains and/or artwork have been removed, and the walls were dirty in places (maybe something spilled on them), though the rest of the house was very clean! The downstairs kitchen doesn't have anything in it so if you want to use if you'd need to move things from the top kitchen down (we couldn't use the downstairs kitchen/living room anyway because of the leak). The gas hob in the top kitchen didn't work so we were without hob cooking facilities for our weeklong stay (the oven did work). The remote for the heat pump was missing from the holder (we had to contact the property manager to ask her for it). Some of the bedrooms are missing things like bedside tables and/or lamps - not a huge deal but a real pain if you like to read in bed. There's no chair on the little deck off the main bedroom upstairs, making the whole area nonfunctional. The coffee machine in the kitchen didn't work properly, the coffee coming out was just warm, and the milk frother didn't work. There was out of date food in the pantry. There wasn't much information when we checked into the house. A welcome pack with some information on where things were and some simple instructions on how to use them ( e.g. the theatre room) would have been great. The outdoor area was really nice (with a beautiful view) but again could use some TLC. The linen service was great! Most of my interactions were with the property manager once we arrived and she was really great! Bachcare were in touch via email but didn't seem to really understand the issue (e.g. sent me an email regarding "no power at the property". Considering the issues with the property, I am surprised Bach Care haven't been in touch! All in all, I wasn't overly impressed with our stay at the Eagles Nest and wouldn't book it again.

We stayed here for a week and loved every minute of it. Views are amazing. such a beautiful home. Location is very good. If you need a place to stay while in nelson this is definitely the place to book.

It would have been nice to be able to use the garage to store our bikes but that was not possible. And although we phoned Bachcare requesting access to the Wi-Fi, the information given enabled access to the router but no access to the internet... disappointing for a property of this type. Otherwise an enjoyable stay high on the hill!

The views are excellent. Checking in and out was straightforward and the house had everything you needed and more. Would definitely recommend Eagles Nest and would love to stay again if back in Nelson.

The location was also very good with amazing views from every room and only a short drive down the hill to get into Nelson centre or the Tahunanui on the other side. We did however have a lot of problems with the Bachcare side of the booking. We found it extremely difficult to get straight answers to our queries about cost and early entry requirements.

Great views, a short drive from town. Air Con very welcome in the evening. Lots of stairs so don't book if thatâs a challenge for you. Also lots of different social spaces so worked well.

Our linen service will provide all sheets, pillowcases, towels, bath mats, and tea towels for your stay. Weâll also make up the beds for you prior to arrival and strip them down after your departure. Pillows and duvets are provided at the property.

An unmatched, diverse space for large families, friends or a business retreat from the chef's kitchen to the deck for alfresco dining, Eagles Nest will be a holiday you will remember for years to come.
