Depending on the route you choose, driving time will be between one to two hours, but of course that\u2019s not including all the photo ops you\u2019ll be stopping for! You won\u2019t be short on adventures along the way as there is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bachcare.co.nz\/blog\/things-to-do-in-queenstown\/\">so much to explore and many activities in Queenstown<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\">There are two routes to get from Queenstown to Wanaka \u2013 with both being equally as scenic and memorable.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bachcare.co.nz\/holiday-homes-accommodation\/queenstown-wanaka?keywords=&amp;minPrice=0&amp;maxPrice=&amp;features=&amp;propertyProfileIds=&amp;pageNumber=1&amp;sortBy=featured\">Find out where to stay in the Southern Lakes<\/a>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"is-style-wide wp-block-separator has-css-opacity eplus-wrapper\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"eplus-wrapper wp-block-heading\">1. Queenstown to Wanaka via the Crown Range<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\" wp-block-image size-full eplus-wrapper\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bachcare.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/05\/1.-Queenstown-to-Wanaka-via-the-Crown-Range-Queenstown-to-Wanaka-How-To-Travel-From-Queenstown-To-Wanaka.jpg\" alt=\"1. Starting at the town centre of Queenstown, you\u2019ll make your way up along SH6 towards Lake Hayes. It\u2019s a stunning part of the region where some of the nicest homes in Otago are located. On a still day the lake turns into a photographer\u2019s dream, with the trees, rolling hills and rugged mountains reflecting perfectly on the mirror-like water.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"eplus-wrapper wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\" eplus-wrapper\">From there you will pass by the turn-off to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bachcare.co.nz\/holiday-homes-accommodation\/queenstown-wanaka\/arrowtown\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Arrowtown (opens in a new tab)\">Arrowtown<\/a>, which is a quick and necessary detour to drive through the archway of trees &#8211; especially during Autumn! Linking back up with SH6, you\u2019ll then turn up the Crown Range Road, which is a long and windy ascent to the top. There will be many temptations to want to stop to take in the views, but the best place to do so is at the very top of the Crown Range Mountains. There\u2019s a small parking area to pull over to and take in the views of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bachcare.co.nz\/holiday-homes-accommodation\/queenstown\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Queenstown (opens in a new tab)\">Queenstown<\/a> in the distance and the remarkable landscape.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"eplus-wrapper wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\" eplus-wrapper\">The descent of the mountain range then begins, with another steep and windy road to follow. It\u2019s a magical place to drive through at any time of the year, but most special during the start of summer when there are endless rows of colourful purple, pink and white lupins lining the road and dominating the grassy fields.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"eplus-wrapper wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\" eplus-wrapper\">You\u2019ll then connect up with the Cardrona Valley Road, which is another good stopping point to enjoy the surrounding scenery, stretch the legs and grab a bite to eat at the iconic Cardrona Hotel (but make sure you <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bachcare.co.nz\/holiday-homes-accommodation\/cardrona\">book your Cardrona Accommodation with Bachcare<\/a>!). As you approach Wanaka you will spot the famous Roys Peak to your left. If you\u2019ve got extra time to spare, there\u2019s also the option to take another detour and drive up to the&nbsp;Cardrona Ski Resort, where you can hit the slopes in winter or enjoy the walking trails in summer. It\u2019s smooth driving from there, with a straight shot to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bachcare.co.nz\/holiday-homes-accommodation\/queenstown-wanaka\/wanaka\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Wanaka<\/a>&nbsp;for your epic holiday to begin!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"is-style-wide wp-block-separator has-css-opacity eplus-wrapper\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"eplus-wrapper wp-block-heading\">2. From there, the route via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bachcare.co.nz\/holiday-homes-accommodation\/queenstown-wanaka\/cromwell\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Cromwell (opens in a new tab)\">Cromwell<\/a> is much less challenging and always open no matter what the weather conditions are. Following SH6, you\u2019ll drive along the sparkling blue waters of the Kawarau River.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"eplus-wrapper wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\" eplus-wrapper\">The first detour option is pulling up to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bungy.co.nz\/queenstown\/kawarau-bungy-centre\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" class=\"ek-link\">AJ Hackett\u2019s Kawarau Bridge Bungy<\/a>, where there\u2019s a free viewing platform to the public to watch brave souls plunge from the bridge above into the rushing waters 50 meters below (or even give it a quick go yourself if you&#8217;re game!).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"eplus-wrapper wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\" eplus-wrapper\">As you continue onwards, the temptations to keep having more detours will heighten, with numerous wineries to be found along the way &#8211; calling your name to come in and have a wine tasting experience or simply explore the beautiful grounds.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"eplus-wrapper wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\" eplus-wrapper\">If you\u2019ve managed to avoid the wine tastings, the journey continues along the Kawarau River towards the Roaring Meg Hydro scheme. This ridiculously powerful hydro scheme is definitely worth pulling over to admire from above.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"eplus-wrapper wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\" eplus-wrapper\">You&#8217;ll continue onwards towards Cromwell. With an array of the most mouth-watering stone fruit <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" title=\"Otago\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bachcare.co.nz\/holiday-homes-accommodation\/otago\">Otago<\/a> has to offer, have your pick of enjoying fresh cherries, apricots, nectarines, real fruit ice cream and even a guided orchard tour!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"eplus-wrapper wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\" eplus-wrapper\">You\u2019ll then reach the orchard and vineyard landscape of Cromwell itself, with a scenic drive past Lake Dunstan and the rolling hills of the Otago region.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"eplus-wrapper wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\" eplus-wrapper\">The Clutha River will lead you the rest of the way to Wanaka, with options to stop and check out the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"National Transport &amp; Toy Museum (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/nttmuseumwanaka.co.nz\/\" target=\"_blank\">National Transport &amp; Toy Museum<\/a> or Puzzling World before reaching the town centre of Wanaka.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\" eplus-wrapper\">If you wanted to stay in somewhere a little <em>different <\/em>then Wanaka, check out our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bachcare.co.nz\/holiday-homes-accommodation\/queenstown-wanaka\/lake-hawea\">Lake Hawea Accommodation<\/a> here!
