Richard “We have stayed here previously and had no hesitation in returning for a week.”
Good location with a great view over the bay from the balcony. It's a little tired at the edges but comfortable and homely, with a view that trumps any blemishes.

Natalie “I have had to review this property poorly due to the overwhelming smell of damp and mustiness that hits you as soon as you enter the property and surrounds you the whole time.”
This is likely due to a condensation issue at the property (we were mopping the windows in the mornings!) and the years of damp in the curtains and carpets that have likely never been washed like they desperately need to be. The view outside was let down by overgrown trees and we didnt spend much time outside as the decks felt very shoddy. There was also broken furniture left outside which really should have been removed, its pretty lazy to just leave it there for guests to work arounda. The knives in the kitchen are blunt and unusable and really need replacing - details like this really make a difference to guests when trying to do a simple, basic thing like prepare food. The shower was terrible and lacks any kind of pressure, it made showering very unpleasant. We were almost going to cut our trip short and leave after the first night as we really were not enjoying the experience, if not for our daughter who was set on staying in Russell. I strongly suggest you address the smell and the other things mentioned.
- Natalie, July 2024Thank you for your feedback on the maintenance that is required at the property, we are sorry to hear you felt that way about your stay. We're discussing the maintenance of the property with our local crew and working hard on improvements to ensure this home continues to offer an amazing experience to our guests. Bachcare
Michelle “The view was absolutely stunning and the accommodation itself was great.”
The only downside - no air conditioning. Because the weather was so beautiful it was impossible to cool the interior down, even with all doors/windows open and fans going. The mezzanine floor bed room was almost unbearable to sleep in. Management were brilliant.
- Michelle, January 2024Mark “We loved this house and had a great holiday, with one BIG proviso.”
The outside deck around the house is now quite unsafe with a number of parts of the deck likely to collapse when walked on. The deck needs a complete replacement of the actual decking as has been done at one of the neighbours. We also question if the deck railing is still legal as it is quite low and also not too secure in places. To a lesser extent there was also: lack on tongs for the BBQ; difficulty turning off the kitchen tap; a serious ant invasion in the toliet.
- Mark, January 2024Thank you for your review, we're very sorry to hear that you found some amenities not up to standard. As we take health and safety, your feedback on the deck was followed up and we can confirm that the decking is legally up to code. Since your stay the kitchen tap and the unwelcome ant guests have both been fixed. We hope to host you again soon. Bachcare
Jude “We had a lovely relaxed stay… views were spectacular and the sound of birdsong amazing.”
A very warm and comfortable bed and easy to use facilities all round. A hairdryer would be one small and useful add on. The house was spotlessly clean and we felt very pleased with our choice.
- Jude, August 2022Jessie “We had a superb family getaway in Te Maiki Retreat.”
Perfect for our four kids and us. Spectacular views, warm & cozy, everything we required and so close to all the special Bay of Islands activities. Would definitely return!!
- Jessie, June 2022Rod “Great property and location.”
Yes it's a bit old - you can feel it when someone goes up the stairs or the washing machine spins - but views are fab, nice and clean and well appointed. Except the lack of hairdryer though - please remedy this! Thanks for supplying some washing liquid though :)
- Rod, April 2022Toby “This is a special property with spectacular views within the picturesque town of Russell in the Bay of Islands.”
Some attention to updating some bedding and making sure the property is properly stocked with normal kitchen utensils would make Villa 6 even more attractive.
- Toby, April 2022Mike “A comfortable house, with an absolutely great view, (well worth a 3 min walk up the hill) while still being very close to town.”
I'd happily stay here again!
- Mike, March 2022Karl “Best view in Russell, very short walk from town (despite being up hill).”
All bedrooms and rooms are as in pictures. Easy to check in and check out
- Karl, January 2022Adam “Very comfortable and conveniently located villa with a great outlook over Russell and the bay.”
- Adam, July 2021susan “Magnificent views make up for fairly basic house.”
Comfy beds.
- susan, April 2021Jordi “Very nice view, compact but has everything.”
- Jordi, April 2021Anne “We had an excellent 5 night stay as a family with two young children.”
As advertised, the balcony requires close supervision of children but views of the boats and bays are amazing. Our children used the two downstairs bedrooms which were dark and quiet, while the adults stayed upstairs on the mezzanine floor. The house was clean and tidy and an excellent price. We would stay here again. Thanks.
- Anne, January 2021Michelle “2 words. That view!”
- Michelle, November 2020Theresa “Stunning views and location.”
Villa is comfortable but has aged decor. People should be wary with young children as the deck is old and balustrade is extremely unstable and far too low as villa is at least 2 metres off the ground on front of deck.
- Theresa, October 2020Martin “This place is amazing and well worth booking.”
The view is just beautiful and I would sit on the deck all day if I could.
- Martin, October 2020Shiralee “A truly relaxing and wonderful place to stay.”
The property is lovely and clean, magnificent views and close to the Russell township.
