The property

Whether you’re looking for a tranquil spot to while away the hours staring at breathtaking views, or a base to take in everything Kaikoura has to offer, we reckon we’ve got you covered with this gem of a holiday home. Welcome to Protea House! Just a 10-minute, mostly flat stroll from the town centre, Protea House offers the best of both worlds when it comes to location and comfort in Kaikoura. When you’re not out exploring, picture yourself relaxing in the bright and spacious elevated open-plan living room, complete with a leather lounge suite and bay window, just waiting for you, your cuppa, and that book you’ve been waiting to dive into. Both a heat pump and wood burning fireplace ensure Protea House is just the right temperature for your stay, no matter the time of year. On a summer getaway, open the French doors to create seamless indoor-outdoor flow onto the wrap-around deck - the perfect setting for that classic Kiwi BBQ with a view! A fully equipped kitchen is on hand to create delicious family meals, and with an indoor dining table, breakfast bar, and two outdoor settings, you’ll have no shortage of spots to tuck in and chat about adventures past, and those to come. Later, let the dishwasher take care of cleaning up and settle in to watch a DVD, or something on the Sky TV. Protea House has three bedrooms, comfortably sleeping up to seven guests. The generous master suite features a queen bed and enjoys its own ensuite bathroom and direct access to the deck. A four-piece family bathroom, complete with a spa bath, completes the setup for your stay. The littlest family members are well taken care of here at Protea House too, with a port-a-cot and high chair available on request. Protea House is just a 10-minute walk from the main street of Kaikoura with its shops, eateries, and attractions. If you’re in town to do some wildlife spotting, you’ll find Dolphin Encounter within an easy 10-minute walk, Whale Watch Kaikoura just 5 minutes drive away, and the Kaikoura Peninsula walk with its resident seals starts 8 minutes away by car. A great location, stunning views, and a cosy place to call home all await, here at Protea House!

About the location

Kaikoura is watched over by the majestic mountain ranges that stretch down towards the rugged east coast of the South Island. Kaikoura is most well known for its whale watching opportunities, which attract visitors from across the world. Tours depart Kaikoura to allow visitors the chance to catch glimpses of giant sperm whales, dolphins, fur seals, and the rare royal albatrosses. For those who are more adventurous, there are chances to don a wetsuit and swim with many of the wonderful creatures found on the Kaikoura Coastline. The annual Seafest, held the first weekend in October, is becoming increasingly popular, and attracts more visitors every year. For history buffs, Kaikoura offers the chance to learn about the early whaling and sealing days of the district, as well as Maori History, and a number of historic buildings. There are also a number of walks to explore, one which takes visitors past some spectacular limestone caves, and seal colonies.
