The property

Park the boat, unpack the chilly bin, and put your feet up! Welcome to Mermaid’s Hideaway! This character filled Kaikōura studio is perfectly positioned to hit the water in minutes or just chill out in one of the coolest spots in Aotearoa. A converted garage kept toasty warm thanks to efficient heating, this artistic space offers spacious open-plan living and a well-equipped kitchenette. Don’t worry, there’s still a full-size fridge/freezer for the drinks and morning bacon and eggs! A compact bathroom plus a generous bedroom that comfortably sleeps four guests completes the setup for your stay here at Mermaid’s Hideaway. And yes, there most certainly is WiFi so you can post your favourite snaps and check on the weather conditions for tomorrow! Being just a one-minute drive and three-minute walk from the boat ramp, you really are hitting the jackpot when snapping up this gem of a holiday home. Come summer it’s near impossible to find a trailer park once you’ve launched, but by staying at Mermaid’s Hideaway you can just drive home and run back! Imagine coming off the water and being home with your fresh catch ready for the frying pan in minutes! Of course, Kaikōura isn’t just famous for fishing, there’s also whale and dolphin watching, fur seal colonies, and great walks with rewarding sea and mountain views. Make this your home away from home for your small family getaway and you’ll be a five to seven-minute drive from Dolphin Encounter, Whale Watch Kaikōura, and the town centre, and a three-minute walk from the South Bay Recreation Reserve and the start of the famous Kaikōura Peninsula Walkway. Perfectly petite and quite the treat, Mermaid’s Hideaway awaits!

About the location

Kaikoura is watched over by the majestic mountain ranges that stretch down towards the rugged east coast of the South Island. Kaikoura is most well known for its whale watching opportunities, which attract visitors from across the world. Tours depart Kaikoura to allow visitors the chance to catch glimpses of giant sperm whales, dolphins, fur seals, and the rare royal albatrosses. For those who are more adventurous, there are chances to don a wetsuit and swim with many of the wonderful creatures found on the Kaikoura Coastline. The annual Seafest, held the first weekend in October, is becoming increasingly popular, and attracts more visitors every year. For history buffs, Kaikoura offers the chance to learn about the early whaling and sealing days of the district, as well as Maori History, and a number of historic buildings. There are also a number of walks to explore, one which takes visitors past some spectacular limestone caves, and seal colonies.
