Our linen service will provide all sheets, pillowcases, towels, bath mats, and tea towels for your stay. We’ll also make up the beds for you prior to arrival and strip them down after your departure. Pillows and duvets are provided at the property.

Beautifully presented with contemporary furnishings and thoughtful décor, the open-plan living area provides the perfect spot for you to maximise on well-deserved down time with your loved ones. Stay connected on the complimentary WiFI, or flick on the Apple TV and log in to your favourite viewing apps. The modern and fully equipped kitchen allows you to whip up your favourite holiday meals with ease, to be enjoyed at the dining table or alfresco. Pair with an ice-cold beverage of your choice, and make memories well into the evening. It doesn’t get much better than this! Three bedrooms, two bathrooms and full laundry facilities provide ample convenience during your stay at Sunset Retreat, making this an ideal configuration, for a family or group of friends. Heaters are available for guest use and air-conditioning is due to be installed mid-May! If you have little family members, you'll be pleased to hear Sunset Retreat has a baby bath, high chair, travel cot, and a baby gate. Besides your prime position right on the Dunes Golf Course, you’re just a three-minute drive from the golden sands of Matarangi Beach if you’re keen to a dip after perfecting your putt. This corner of the Coromandel is host to plenty of picturesque beaches, head 11-minutes to Kūaotunu Beach, or further afield, head 19 minutes to Otama Beach or just under 30 minutes to Opito Bay Beach to make a day of it. For a bite to eat, Piper’s Café is just three-minute drive from home base, head there for a tasty brunch to fuel you for your day ahead. For the ideal blend of relaxation, convenience and adventure, Sunset Retreat awaits!

As the property has unfenced access to the golf course and lakes on the grounds, adults should closely supervise young children while outside.

Please note that the top bunk has a maximum weight limit of 90 kg for an adult.

About the location

Just a 2.5 hour drive from Auckland, Matarangi is a picturesque seaside township located between Whitianga and the Coromandel. The area enjoys a world-class golf course and numerous scenic walkways. Just north of Matarangi lays New Chums Beach, only accessible via a 40-minute bush walk or by boat. “This is a really well-appointed property in a nice part of Matarangi which actually backs on to the golf course.”

We were very comfortable there and enjoyed our stay. Due to a storm coming through which closed the roads, our stay was extended by 2 nights unexpectedly. The communication from Bachcare was fantastic around this and I have to say a big thanks also to the owners who were very generous and kind-hearted around the situation we found ourselves in. I highly recommend this property and also the experience with Bachcare.

“To be honest, having read the past reviews about cleanliness we were a little nervous.”

But absolutely no issues at all. Place was spotless. Light, airy, great facilities. An awesome spot to spend the summer days. Great times. Will come again.

“Upon our arrival, we thought wow what a fabulous property and then we opened the door to the unit.”

.. The floor was dirty, hadn't been vacuumed or mopped since previous guests dirt, dust and washing powder on the floor, smelt like rotting fish, showers had Orange mould (we went & purchased exit mould to clean before use- you're welcome), dirty bathtub, right-side vanity bulb in upstairs bathroom not working the glass of the showers were dirty, toilets were dirty. Finger and forehead marks on the windows, can see tried to clean but were just a smeared mess. The fridge and freezer were filthy, with dead flies, and we had to clean them before putting away our food, Beds, thank god the sheets were clean, but there was dust on headboards and cobwebs in corners all over the unit, dirty ear bud in hot water cupboard, the railing for the staircase was so dirty even my 12-year-old son asked for cleaning products and cloth to clean, dirty marks all over the walls, we took photos of everything including damage to walls that were already there. very disappointing start to the holiday especially after a 5-and-a-half-hour drive. The vacuum Cleaner was full of dirt and the mop...well what was left of the sponge on the mop, I'm always happy to clean, but you need to ensure that the vacuum has been emptied and that there is sponge left on the mop to be able to use. Then we finally cleaned and unpacked... then to use the BBQ... OMG, it was also dirty. On our departure, we stripped the beds to ensure the next guests would get clean bedding. The single bed is the size for a child, my 12-year-old is tall for his age almost 5.9, and he struggled with the size of the bed, would recommend stating this in the advert. I highly recommend the Owners of this property get rid of the cleaners for this property, we waited for an hour outside the unit hoping to catch the cleaners on our departure, but they were a no-show. Overall the stay was great, loved the slow-paced beach vibe, was quiet considering how busy the golfing range was and when we were at the unit we enjoyed watching the golfers, which we decided to do a golfing day all the neighbours we met were great, very friendly. Recommendations to Owners: (1) Get new Cleaners (2) Either get a full-size single to advertise that is for a small child (3) Put a Guest Manual in the unit with instructions, rubbish days/locations recommendations etc (4) Declutter pantry, awesome you have so much stuff, but hardly any room to put our groceries. (5) Car Parks are small, our standard unit was too long, lucky we could back it in to overhang over the grass. Honestly, this is a great unit, a great setting etc, just needs more professional cleaners. We did appreciate the Bottle of Wine, chocolates and the coffee pods :) We have all the photos, should you wish to see them, just email me and I can send them through.

“If you want a holiday where you can clean a bunch of other people’s filth, look no further!”

When we arrived we were greeted by spiders galore and dead insects everywhere. The pong from the sink discreetly covered by the smell of a small truck load of fe-breeze, hits you like a tonne of bricks and will bring up breakfast from days back. Dog hair everywhere, visible on the dark carpet like stars in the sky. More spiders, nests and babies residing in the lounge. The beautiful copper lamp adorned with a thick cover or grease and dust/dander really hit the vibe. I found a vacuum and got to work, filled the entire vac with what I’d have expected the cleaner to have sorted prior to arranging. It appears that the place has been un vacuumed for the entire year. No batteries in the tv remote, wifi instructions are outdated. The faux eco store bottles placed around filled with cheap fillers are a nice touch. Bachcare couldn’t give a rats… “we are sorry”… but they aren’t. Upstairs and the bath was grotty. Toilets filthy and left with other people’s muck under the seat. Duvet covers I was informed do not get cleaned. And they look it. After vacuuming upstairs and discovering long hairs stuck out the vacuum which were indeed- not mine. Left the place today after a 3day stay and it was a lot tidier than when we received it. The cleaner turned up for an accusation match, mid stay - unannounced might I add. Overall the house is beautifully presented but I’d spend that little bit more and get something cleaner. Heavily disgusted with bachcare and the lack of any remediation. Even the cleaner said

“Was lovely staying there, disappointed with the cleanliness, poorly cleaned with the single room not even having bedding on it on arrival.”

Found the fitted sheet under the bed wrinkled not sure if it was washed - table top in kitchen dirty, BBQ not cleaned and full of grease from previous use. At that price you do expect decent service right

“The property was better than we imagined it to be!”

“Hi Team, I have enjoyed my visit to Matarangi despite some of the issues I had.”

I had to call the customer service center to get the Wi-Fi password as this was outdated and to follow up on a email that I had sent regarding a blood stain on the duvet cover. I then sent another email on the 1st of October to which I have yet to receive a reply. I will list those here, * I swept and mopped all floor tiles as they were dirty and had stains/marks. * I vacuumed all of the upstairs as all the carpets were not vacuumed. I still need to do the downstairs carpet. * The dishwasher still had dirty dishes in it. * The patio glass is full of hand and finger prints which I have wiped down. * The TV looked like it had never been wiped. It had that much dust and fingerprints on. I have wiped this down. * Bedside tables and lamps were not dusted which I have since done. * The window sills look like they have been wiped in ages; there is that much dust on them. Further to the above, * In your booklet it mentioned that if you stayed longer than 3 days your amenities will be topped up which never happened. * We received fresh towels on the 2nd to last day which made no sense as I would have thought if we were to get fresh towels it would have been dropped much sooner. * On day 1 I also mentioned to customer service that I was missing a pillow case which she said she had text the property manager to drop one. Sadly I never got my pillow case. * In the main bedroom there is a black throw which had some stains on. Unlike my email I hope that someone actually sees this and can put some actions in place for this not to happen to other customers of yours.
