About the location
These seaside settlements of Coopers Beach, Cable Bay and Taipa overlook some truly spectacular coastline. For those who enjoy diving, Coopers Beach offers some great shore diving spots. Many of the baches and holiday homes have been in the same family for generations, and this coastline is only just now beginning to feel the touches of residential development. The Taipa Bay Resort offers a family friendly dining experience that rivals many world-class restaurants.

Theo “Coopers Sands was great overall.”
Layout - 2 bedrooms upstairs, queen beds, one bedroom with views out over the bay, and a third "bedroom' in the garage - with internal access to the main house -containing a queen and a single trundle. Layout - 2 bedrooms upstairs, queen beds, one bedroom with views out over the bay, and a third "bedroom' in the garage - with internal access to the main house -containing a queen and a single trundle. Big garage, with a table tennis table, and surfboards tucked away, worked as a big, very functional bedroom. The third bedroom is downstairs, with a separate external door, with no internal access to the main house - we did not use this at all. Bathroom with shower and washing machine, separate toilet, good-sized and functional kitchen, dining and living room. Books, lots of games, some pantry staples, tank water to drink was ok, better if cooled in fridge. Plenty of water when we were there! Big deck overlooking the bay. Steps down to the beach - last steps are a bit narrow and steep, but ok. Panel cooling for winter, andthe DVS system to cool the house in summer worked ok. Might be a bit hot in warmer weather, though. (Garage gets a bit hot due tothe west sun on the garage door). Beach - lovely and cool, not cold (January). Decent waves. Lovely sand. Pohutukawa trees down by the beach for shade. Not patrolled, but safe, clean sand, green water, occasional seaweed and debris, etc. (we had lots of rain), but overall enjoyable swims. We had some rain and wind, sothe surf was a bit much for the younger kids. Lovely outdoor shower back up at the house to rinse off - warm water too, and a view of the sea! Mangonui town - small, some historic buildings, a decent cafe or two, and usual take-out places, two Four Square grocers to shop from, although the one at Coopers Beach is better, and there is a great butcher there too, across the road. So plenty of supplies, places to eat and a few things to see. Working harbour with fishing charters if that's your thing. Things are a bit on the pricey side, given how remote the place is (relatively). Didn't get to walk up to the hilltop, P, a due to the weather, er but that would have been nice. Easy access to Cape Reinga and Paihia in bay of Islands. Few negatives - Deck cover leaked when it was raining, so we couldn't sit outside, Garage used as third bedroom for those who wish to put a car in the garage (not an issue really) and positioned on state highway 10, so previous reviews mentioned road noise, but this was definitely not a problem. Easy road access, it was not that busy. Big driveway. Also, please don't publish this, but feed back to the owner - we had some wild weather in the North Island during our stay. While we were not affected by flooding or winds, there was some internal leaking during the heavy rain from the roof onto the ceiling. The worst one was in the dining room along the wall. We had to take down the picture from the wall as the water was running down the wall. There were smaller leaks in the second bedroom, the one next to the bathroom, the leak being just inside the door, and a third in the garage near the door to the outside area containing the water tank. These two leaks were not significant, but were only drips. The main leak was in the dining room. Otherwise, no real issues, quite a comfortable stay.
Thank you for sharing such a detailed account of your stay. It is wonderful to hear that you enjoyed the overall layout of Coopers Sands and that the home and surroundings worked well for your group. It is great that the bedrooms, garage setup, kitchen and living areas were functional and that the deck, beach access and outdoor shower helped make the stay enjoyable. We are glad to hear you made the most of the beautiful beach, local walks and nearby Mangonui and that the location suited trips further north. We appreciate you noting the few downsides including the deck cover leaking during rain and the warmth in the garage during sunnier parts of the day. Thank you as well for highlighting the noise not being an issue despite the proximity to the main road. Your additional comments regarding the internal leaks during the heavy rain have been noted and passed on to the owner. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We would be happy to welcome you back again. Reputation and Resolutions Coordinators. Bachcare
