This romantic, self-catering cottage is conveniently located in a sheltered, quiet sunny valley on the outskirts of the village but within a 10 minute stroll to shops, the waterfront and cafes. The perfect option for a romantic weekend.
Built in 1863 by French settlers, the historic cottage has been sensitively restored and refurbished, with a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom with a shower over the bath. There is 1 bedroom with a comfortable queen bed with electric blankets.
The cottage nestles in 1/2 an acre of garden and orchard in which bell birds and wood pigeons abound. At the back, french doors open to a sunny, sheltered outdoor area with BBQ and at the front relax on the wisteria covered veranda.
Romance abounds at French Colonial Cottage. Relax, enjoy, unwind in your gorgeous surrounds.

This is a lovely batch, beautifully renovated, furnished and equipped. We loved the wonderful garden and being able to pick a fresh lemon and sit on the bench and listen to and see fantails and bellbirds. The location is ideal - walking distance to shops but away from noise, lots of walks from the house - the birdsong in the bush in the morning is magical. The town has all the shops you need for a comfortable stay. 24hr wi-fi at the Library.

Gorgeous cottage, lovely setting and we'll equipped. Easy walk into town. And well managed. We'll be back.

Lovely old cottage, very private with lovely garden. Loved seeing the album of the restoration and history of the property. Would stay here again.

We loved staying here, it's a beautifully restored cottage with a rich history and stunning gardens. The owners have done a very fine job of making this place modern and comfortable without taking away from it's historic beauty. The Wisteria on the veranda was in full bloom during our stay too which was lovely. This place was the highlight of our visit to Akaroa.

We have stayed at the French Colonial Cottage 3 times now and always enjoy the cottage because of its proximity to the town and the great walking tracks. The cottage is perfect for two - it is small and neat and the heating and comfort is good for an old residence.

Lovely wee house for a weekend away. Very clean and tidy, lots of good books, tv and dvds. No WiFi which was the only thing we noticed to be missing! But of course one can live without that. ;-) Would definitely recommend to friends for a nice couples weekend away. Hope we can stay again soon!
Thank you so much for your feedback, we are delighted to hear that you had such a wonderful time and look forward to welcoming you back again very soon!

This property was exactly as had been described - even better actually. It really took us back to what it might have been when it was first built, just with modern amenities.
