“A short summary: Pros of Te Maiki Escape - fantastic position with fabulous views.”

Comfortable bed in downstairs double bedroom - didn't use upstairs at all. Plenty of hot water. Good to have parking and be within easy walking distance of the town. Good supply of crockery etc. In a nice little area too. Cons: Tired, shabby, outdated decor. Mugs and coffee pot in cupboards actually dirty. (I do have photos). Tea towels utterly useless for drying anything, just smeared everything around. Carpet stained and shabby. Cobwebs on the inside of the window in sitting room. Broken table ...

Broken table on deck (top came off when picked up - not safe). TV didn't work - no signal no matter what we tried. Kitchen taps leaked extensively after first use meaning a large puddle of water on work top to mop up every morning. Linings of curtains in bedroom torn and hanging in shreds. That is simply not acceptable. Wardrobe in downstairs double bedroom stank of stale sweat and, in fact, the whole house smelled very unpleasant. Had to keep windows and doors open ALL the time to keep smell at bay - problems with drainage perhaps? The house is in need of an extensive overhaul of facilities/decor etc in our view as it could be amazing! With its wonderful position etc, it could be fabulous and get a much better rental price too. (or at least, be worth the rental paid for it). Instead it really really wasn't. Apologies for the very negative comments but the house was actually very disappointing in many ways. Had we been staying for longer than 4 nights, we would have much more of an issue of it. I've given two stars for the pros which I've listed above. I can honestly say we could not recommend the house as a place to stay to anyone we know which is such a shame as Russell is delightful and we loved it.
