A log cabin set in idyllic surroundings, perfect for eating meals outside to enjoy your surroundings and feel at peace with the world. Very relaxing.

If you want an authentic alpine log cabin experience then this is the one to go for. It’s in a lovely setting, close to town, walks, pools etc and once the log fire is cranking it heats the whole place up so you feel toasty warm.

A quirky yet rather basic chalet which provides a wonderful base for a holiday because of its great garden and fantastic access to all the local forest walks. And dog-friendly to boot. We'll certainly return.

Wonderful place to stay with children. My kids (6 and 9) loved the log cottage with cosy fire, bean bags, attic, spa bath etc. Plus it's walking distance to Hanmer Springs thermal pools and has a beautiful, scenic outlook over trees. The beds are comfortable too. Highly recommend.

Squirrel Lodge is like a little piece of Alpine beauty all to yourself. Great grounds, comfortable property with some lovely features. We really enjoyed our stay and our dogs loved the space. Lots of water around so bring your insect spray / lotion.

This place was lovely, the gardens were big and beautiful and so close to the reserve. Great for our older kids age 10 and 14. it has a wee stream that runs through it and a pond nearby so may not be ideal for littlies. We went in the autumn and it was so cosy and warm. They had the fire going for when we arrived later in the evening. Lovely! Felt like we were in Switzerland in the log house! We were stoked we could bring our dog too! We tried to re-book for another trip to Hamner but sadly it wasn't available. Will definitely be back.
