The Lookout is a modern 2 bedroom Tairua holiday home with Wi-Fi. Enjoying an elevated position to capture stunning beach and ocean vistas, this upmarket holiday home is the perfect option for a couples retreat! Unwind indoors and admire the scenery, or set yourself up on the deck for dining alfresco with amazing ocean views. Everything you need for a refreshing stay is on hand. Bedrooms 1 and 2 each open onto the deck for cruisy summer living, and each bedroom has a king bed. The king bed in the second room does split into 2 single beds if requested. This is an ideal set up for 1-2 couples or a small family. Head to the beach for days in the sand and surf, or simply sit back, relax, and watch the world go by from the deck... The Lookout in Tairua welcomes you!
The property is accessed through a private gate, and approximately 30 steps down from allocated car parking spots.

About the location
A 25 minute drive from bustling beach resort Pauanui, Tairua is the perfect spot for exploring the east coast and its offshore islands. Stunning views out to the Alderman, Slipper and Shoe Islands, and climbing up Mount Paku you'll be welcomed by views back to The Pinnacles in Coromandel Forest Park. Make sure to set-aside a few hours to explore the township itself, including taking time out for a kayak or windsurf in the harbour.All of our Tairua holiday homes are pre-inspected prior to your arrival and are ready for instant online booking.

“Beautiful spot and drop dead views.”
When the weather is good and all the window sliders open, there is nothing like it! I read the comment about “garden” furniture and they are not wrong. But given the ocean elements I can understand why they made that choice. And the sound was tricky to figure out on the tv. We figured it out by fussing with the sound system in the closet.

Brian “We’d love to staying at the Lookout – the views were stunning and it was very well appointed”
- Brian, February 2026Dean “This was the second time we rented this house and sad to say it has declined in maintenance and cleanliness.”
While it is a wonderful property, it is not fit to be rented out in its current state. There are significant issues with sewage/wastewater. The kitchen sink is semi blocked and not draining properly and couldn't be remedied by plunging, and after having showers and running the dishwasher there was a foul sulfurous sewage smell coming from somewhere under the house. Also the sensor lights for the the long flight of stairs down to the house don't appear to be working (tried all the switch settings with no luck) which is a health and safety hazard when hauling suitcases etc down there in the dark. The other unnecessary annoyance was that the fridge/freezer wasn't turned on prior to our arrival, and because it takes a long time to cool a fridge down from 24deg to 2 deg, we couldn't use it on arrival night to keep a chicken salad at a safe temperature so had to go and get more ice to keep it cool in a chilly bin overnight. Cleanliness was average - lots of spiderwebs around windows, and interior cleanliness generally just a bit below expectations. Like I say, its in an awesome location and could be a great little house but it just needs to be shown some love by the owners...and cleaners. In its current state I wouldn't book it again and wouldn't recommend it to others - unless you like the smell of sulphur, but then you can go to Rotorua and get that for free.

David “This apartment is in a great location and has stunning views, the building itself is sleek and modern.”
Unfortunately it is disappointing inside. It is not clean, the toilet was dirty, all the pillows had yellow sweat stains on them, the kitchen hob was dirty and the BBQ was filthy. I had to clean the place before I felt comfortable. The bed linen is basic and had marks on it and the bedroom carpets were stained. The furniture in the lounge area is garden furniture. It’s such a shame as this apartment could be one of the best in Tairua if the owners cared enough about it. It wasn’t worth the money we paid and unless it’s shown some love and care, it’s not worth it, there are better places to stay. It looks like similar reviews about the lack of cleanliness have featured before so even more disappointing that the owners don’t appear to have done anything about it.

We really loved our stay at The Lookout. However, it was unfortunate to find the house quite dirty when we arrived, I really think the cleaners should definitely be reviewed. The toilet smelled like it had never been cleaned and the bin was revolting. I think the we left the bach cleaner than we found it as we couldn't deal with the smell and mess. Also, it would be nice to have dishwashing liquid and shower gel for future guests.

Kim “The view was beautiful but was disappointed that the mattress protector was filthy along with the shower.”
We did however clean the kitchen bench before unloading our things. We were please we didn’t take any BBQ food as it was disgusting. Make sure you take dishes if you want to cook inside the oven and maybe a kettle as this leaked. The view was beautiful tho….

This is another review detailing the lack of cleanliness and care for high standards. • Single beds in second bedroom made up as a double - booking was for 3 adults and 1 child • No soap in the bathroom • Bin in the bathroom not emptied: contained toilet rolls and empty toothpaste tube • Shower screen not cleaned for quite some time and had some long dark hair stuck on it • Old, much-used cake of soap on shower floor and old toiletries on the shelf • No dishwasher powder or tablets: don't expect to have to hand wash all crockery and cutlery when there is a dishwasher • Glass-topped dining table was very dirty: covered in glass condensation rings and other marks of general use. • Coffee table not clean: dark hair and spillage, including on floor underneath. Legs seem to have water in them and are rusting. • Dirty, dusty, used cleaning cloths left in the laundry tub • Dishwasher not emptied: contents ‘clean’ but was detergent used? • No cloths or sponges to use for washing dishes in the absence of dishwasher detergent • Empty liquid hand soap container under kitchen sink • Scatter cushions on lounge couches in complete disarray as if someone had just left ie not arranged ready for new rental • Batteries in LG remote started leaking a long time ago - the negative terminal on one was rusted. Batteries discarded. • Old cobweb hanging from the ceiling in the corner to the right of the TV • No ‘blue bag’ into which to place general garbage as per property instructions. This house has glass windows and doors almost floor to ceiling all along one side as well as glass screens on the balcony. It is fundamental to its enjoyment that this glass be very clean. It was very clean. Windex bottle was left beside the bed in the second bedroom. - referencing earlier reviews: the umbrella is pretty new and functional; the 3 sun lounges are all functional with cushions. It seems ‘deep-cleaning’ did take place sometime in the last 12 months Didn’t want to touch the BBQ - there’s a rusting gas cylinder next to it. Phoned bachcare late on the afternoon of the first day to request single sheets for the second bedroom, soap and dishwasher powder or tablets. Person was concerned and said would call back in 20 minutes. Called back to say they were trying to contact a second property manager who lives just round the corner. Would call back. Did not. Mid-morning the next day single sheets and extra toilet paper were delivered (hadn't realised there was no spare toilet paper). No soap or dishwasher detergent. Called bachcare who said there were no notes of previous calls, would call back. Did not. Called bachcare the next day to ask where the blue bags for general rubbish were. Said they hadn't been able to contact the property manager the previous day. Late that afternoon received a short email - not a call to the NZ mobile number previously used - to say local manager would be round the next morning to sort out garbage and toiletry issues. We were due to leave then so no use to us. Two full days, three nights.

Tessa “What an amazing view and we had great weather to go with it.”
Lovely comfy beds and clean linen were appreciated. We did feel for the price we paid the house could have been a lot cleaner . There were spiders webs in most corners of doors and windows. There was dirty cutlery in the dishwasher and dirty crockery put away in the cupboards . The toilet bowl is very loose against the wall. We had to vacuum up the sand in the lounge area. We had paid for a cleaning service so hope it was better for the next visitors.

Zan “The property has amazing views and amazing location.”
However it was very dirty for $200 cleaning fee. The rubbish beans were filled with sanitary pads, the beds were with lots of hair, the dishwasher with dirty dishes. The list can get longer. This is first time to be in such a state property.

Would of loved to sneak another night in. Great property, great facilities….did I mention the view . We would like to return here another time. (Dishwasher seemed to have a problem)

Bedbugs, months of hair, dishes everywhere, dust, uncleared floors and carpets. Was so bad and absolutely disgusting. The view is what lures people to rent this house but the reality is disrepair, unhygienic and a company that does not answer phone calls or emails when asked to rectify it. They charge you for cleaning when it is not being cleaned. Would not recommend renting this house or dealing with Bachcare, use AirBNB

However it needs some serious maintainable and repairs, deck umbrella is broken and it’s too hot to use the deck loungers without an umbrella. Place also needs a good deep clean. Lovely place for a relaxing weekend, and Tairua is a great location, beach is great for swimming.

Amazing spot, great house. We stayed as a family of four with 2 young kids, and the house worked really well for us. The kids LOVED the house. The kitchen is big, with new appliances, the coffee machine is a nespresso so bring some capsules! We didn’t want to leave, what a spot to spend the summer.

Cannot beat the location, our only issues were the key location. In the email it stated 2 codes for the lockbox which we assumed to be the gate but that didn’t work so we opened it from the back and then we couldn’t find the keys but the ranch slider was unlocked so we got in and later found the keys under the hood of the bbq which would’ve been a huge problem if the ranch slider wasn’t open. Besides that we loved our stay and we will 100% be back for a 3rd time. (Also one of the deck seats is broken which wasn’t ideal & the bbq wasn’t up to standard)

We had a limited time to decompress. We arrived, slipped in to being at The Lookout and left feeling relaxed and human. Looking out at the horizon and down at the waves on the beach while slumped in uber-comfort was the ticket. My wife had brought the makings for some delicious meals and the Bosch appliances were perfect. (I’d done the hard work of finding the place, so that’s kind of even isn’t it?) Have a look at those photos. The Lookout really delivers what it says on the tin.

Marietta “This is really well done home; quality and intelligent design.”
The view is nothing short of spectacular and the design lets you be outside while still being inside. It makes excellent use of the parcel on which it is built. It is comfortable for a couple but cramped for more than that because of the small bathroom. Tairua is well situated for exploring various hiking tracks and beautiful beaches.

Beautiful home that makes the most of the views. Kitchen had all the knives, plates etc that you need but make sure to bring your own salt, pepper, tea bags, coffee etc as there are none of the little things and the view is so beautiful you don’t want to leave! Sun loungers are amazing, and the track to the beach is great, steep but easy both up and down. We will def come back,

The views are breathtaking and tranquil. The sound of the ocean and the serenity had two of us asleep for 3 hours on arrival! This is modern, comfortable and private with excellent comfortable beds. The bedrooms all look out over Ocean Beach and the sun-loungers were perfect to sip a wine, relax and watch the surfers catch a wave as the sun sets. Paying the premium at Christmas and New Year was worth every penny and I would highly recommend this property. Just be aware that this has quite a few stairs going down to the house and could be harder for older guests or those with a disability.
