Lesley “Five middle-aged ladies, we booked 2 nights.”
We chose this property so that we could all have our own bed and we paid the linen fee so that we didn't have to make beds & do washing. The list of problems we had, and the amount of time sorting them out and following up with Bachcare, was a real disappointment. Firstly, no towels, handtowels etc. A public holiday and a "supply issue" meant none were available the first night, so we had to phone a friend and borrow towels. A Property Manager (from another property) did arrive at 11am the next day and she went above and beyond to remedy the situation. A single bed wasn't made up with sheets (but a top bunk was, so one of the guests had to make her own bed at midnight when it was discovered!). No water in the Pod, this had been turned off; and the shower went cold half-way through because the gas bottle had run out (no notes in the manual on how to fix these). The toaster didn't work. The less-than-satisfactory cleaning, such as the dead cockroach on the windowsill, the crushed biscuit under the couch and the greasy baking trays; and general maintenance like a nail sticking out of a diningroom chair. We did receive compensation for the linen, along with plenty of apologies, but nevertheless Bachcare failed to provide good property management for this property and that impacted negatively on our stay. The single beds were probably intended only for children and would've benefited from a mattress protector at the least, but nevertheless were ok for 2 nights. On a positive note, the house itself was warm and cosy, and in a great location.

I understand that while a Bachcare manager was able to resolve many of your issues it is still disappointing for us that you had these difficulties. Nevertheless, thank you for pointing out some of the maintenance issues that needed addressed. We can assure you that we have remedied these now so that others will not have the same inconvenience. We have also asked Bachcare to change our listing such that it is clear (other than just in the photographs) that 2 beds are indeed bunks. We have reduced the recommended number of adults to 6. Again apologies for the mattress protector missing. This was a surprise as all our beds and pillows do normally have these and there are spares available if needed. It was ovious it's a family-owned place and there were so many personal touches that set it miles apart from sterile airbnbs. We hugely enjoyed our stay and have already recommended it to friends.

The only feedback I would provide is that there was no teatowels or cleaning cloths in the kitchen which we assumed would be included with the linen hire. We purchased some and left them there for the next guests. Ps: the toilet paper holder in the main house fell off the wall. I screwed it back in with the existing screws, however I wanted to note that the wall plugs had cracked so it may fall off again with heavy use.

Ian “We stayed with our son and daughter and their spouses to celebrate our golden wedding anniversary and my wife's birthday the next day.”
We really enjoyed the property and the fact that it was well equipped and had the sort of fun and useful things that would be in a house that a family themselves use. We certainly plan to go there again sometime and highly recommend the place. The cold tsp in the bathroom was very tight and did not close properly - a very small thing which we reported and mention here only for the owners to know - everything else was just great. We would definitely recommend this house and we would stay again. We switched over the main hot water gas cylinder - info in house folder asked us to let owners/Bachcare know but no contact number for owner so emailed Bachcare (hope they got the message). Couldn't get DVD player going which was disappointing as we had some DVDs of previous family Xmas gatherings that we all wanted to watch together but not a biggie though some detailed instructions would be nice.

The neighbour showed up on the morning after arrival asking if we could go inside and talk when we're home. I thought was rude and she seemed to be intolerant. Only 3 of us on the deck. We were very mindful of the neighbour's and our family who were already asleep in the sleepout. So, dont really understand what she was talking about. Otherwise, the place was very warm, cozy and perfect!

The Bach was lovely and clean and very homely….the pod was just great for Nanny and Grandpa to sneak off for quiet time…hahaha …the children loved the games and we spent most of Saturday night playing them…high recommend this place…we certainly will be back.

When you look around the house it is like walking into a mini museum of where the owner has travelled it's cool. We booked this place last minute as the place we were suppose to get couldn't give it to us because of the 3 day COVID announcement. Really happy we got this a day before we were due to go on our little family get away thanks for letting us stay :-)

Cheerful, comfortable and roomy and the Pod is a real bonus. We would have loved to stay longer. Very close to some good restaurants in Waikanae and the wider Kapiti Coast and close enough to Wellington to make that an easy journey. It would be a great house to stay in for a family holiday.

We were 4 fellas wanting a base for easy access to golf courses and dining options. Calypso Cottage was perfect really. Plenty of space, insulated and warm, excellent location and well appointed (wifi, DVDs, ChromeCast, hifi system). The nearby local bakery is quite rightly an iconic business. Open early each morning, 7 days a week and producing high quality breads, pastries, coffees and more. Also, several excellent dinner options offering good variety - Long Beach & Waikanae Boating Club were standouts. Raewyn was an excellent host who provided timely and helpful communications. We genuinely expect to return again in the near future. Thank you!

All the fun extras - board games, dvds, books, toys, big back yard made it such a great place with our 6 year old twins!! They had a ball and didn’t even get their own toys out the whole time. Good location near the Waikanae Beach. Neat kids playground on the beach front, beautiful wide flat beach for walking miles - a ver relaxed area to stay. Only a 5 minute drive on the expressway to the shopping hub area in Paraparaumu. Recommend the Marine Gardens playground in Raumati on a Sunday afternoon when the miniature trains are running. Good fun.

Linen
Our linen service will provide all sheets, pillowcases, towels, bath mats, and tea towels for your stay. We’ll also make up the beds for you prior to arrival and strip them down after your departure. Pillows and duvets are provided at the property.
The property
Wake up, hit the beach and then come home to Calapso Cottage to fire up the BBQ and have a cold drink out on the sundeck! When you need a bright, relaxing and warm holiday home for this beachy adventure, look no further than Calapso Cottage. This recently renovated home has all the essentials including, air conditioning or heat pump to set the ideal temperature and a TV equipped with Chromecast, WiFi and DVD player for chill nights on the couch! Spend your days down by the water, toes in the sand and sunblock on your nose less than 500m from your door. Leave the car at home. First thing in the morning, brew a good cup of coffee on the coffee machine and cook up a storm in the kitchen to make sure everyone is energised for the day ahead. Before you head down to the beach, stop by Old Beach Bakery, just a 4-minute walk, and pick up some treats to enjoy down on the beach for lunch. And if you don't feel like cooking, pop down to the Waimea Restaurant for dinner by the beach. For convenience and a bit of peace of quiet - Calapso Cottage has you covered.
As there is a shallow creek with a footbridge in the back garden, adults should closely supervise young children while outside to ensure they are safe around water
