Charlotte “A great little property in Taupō.”
We appreciated being able to have our dog with us and we enjoyed lots of walks and cycling along the river and into town. The layout of the property makes sitting together comfortably a bit awkward but other than that, we really enjoyed our stay.
- Charlotte, December 2023Justin “Great property, very comfortable and great we could take our dogs.”
Would recommend.
- Justin, June 2023Jo “Lovely 5 night stay.”
Great location in Taupo. Lovely spot - the river nearby is stunning plus close to the Otumuheke springs (a must visit!). It is residential area - unfortunately the neighbours house was being painted, so had an electric sander noise for hours. Just 2 seater couch for tv. No cooking supplies like oil or herbs/spices - no salt on arrival but the property manager came promptly the next day to refill. Beautiful deck (not evening sun but that was nice as cooler) and lovely kitchen/bedrooms and bathroom is spacious. I'd definitely stay there again. Access is a bit tricky but it wasn't problematic (used reversing camera).
- Jo, January 2023Janine “We really enjoyed our 5 day stay at the Treetops with our two dogs.”
The location is quiet and private and the house has a deck and lovely views of the Waikato river and bush. Close to town and walks along the river. Unique rustic touches and everything you need for a relaxing stay, even with the cyclone coming through one night! The driveway is a little tricky but just need to navigate it carefully. Thank you for sharing your home
- Janine, January 2023Amy “Loved our stay at the Rustic Retreat.”
The house was clean and cosy. It had everything we needed. One small comment was that the coffee pods left on the table (assumedly for us?) didn't work with the nespresso machine :)
- Amy, June 2022Nica “Such a great birthday getaway, we loved the treetop hideaway!”
it was really warm and cozy with the fireplace. We found that it had more than just the basics you'd normally find. I have accidentally left my shampoo & conditioner at the property- have tried to get in contact with Bachcare to organize delivery at my expense so would love to hear from you. Thank you for a lovely stay :)
- Nica, June 2022Rachel “We stayed here with friends, plus our baby and dog.”
The house was spacious, clean and homey. Plenty of heaters and a heat pump made it comfortable even in 2 degrees ! Lots of amenities, super easy to cook a meal for 4. Only improvement could be another couch for a better lounge feel.
- Rachel, June 2022Deb “Treetop Hideaway is a fab place to stay- rustic & relaxed.”
Warmed up well with heat pump & heaters.. bed comfy.. lovely deck- would be extra good in summer. Well stocked with basics. Couldn’t get my iPad connected to chrome but took an HDMI cable so able to connect iPad to tv & watch Netflix this way. Great to take our dogs- but our little adventurous one escaped over the end of the deck (deck railing approx 1200mm high & has a gap between top railing.. Max able to reach ground at end of deck but very steep drop off for majority of deck with bushes/ blackberry etc so glad he didn’t get through there!).. fab communication with bachcare & neighbours re this (neighbour appreciated us picking up Max’s little packages!)..Treetop prob more suitable for older/ less adventurous pooches.. Driveway narrow with a bit of a dog-leg so a bit tricky reversing out with a big vehicle.. (was helpful to turn car around in neighbours when they were out & reverse in to Treetop).. Overall loved it.. & just love Taupo! Just a plug for the local businesses- found some extra good places to eat- Cafe 99, Sorrento (Italian) & Malabar Beyond Indian (Indian/ Nepalese) ..Paetiki Pies for best pies ever!.. & Lana Classic Thai for fab massage (on a Sunday even!).. Wairakei Terraces Hot pools fab, & Huka Falls River Cruise also excellent.. Deb
- Deb, May 2022Kaylene “Fantastic house and view”
- Kaylene, April 2022Andrea “Lovely cosy little cottage with everything you need for an enjoyable stay.”
The driveway is difficult and they could do with putting the property number down at the road to help find the place.
- Andrea, April 2022margaret “A good place to stay .”
Dog friendly. Very clean and tidy.
- margaret, March 2022Darren “Nice place to stay, great view of the Taupo bungy, possum that lives there scared the crap out of our son but on the second night when he landed in the roof and did a run around the deck, much less scared.”
Would come back and stay.
- Darren, January 2022Alana “Great spot to stay, lovely deck to enjoy the view from.”
Close to town and a place to swim at the bottom of the road. I would be happy to stay again!
- Alana, December 2021Julia “Nice rustic bach, comfy beds.”
Driveway is narrow :-)
- Julia, December 2021Diana “Treetop hideaway was a lovely location with great view over Waikato River.”
Cosy place which had everything we needed. Heat pump, bedroom heaters and electric blankets kept us warm. Loved the open plan style. Perfect place for friends to catch up.
- Diana, August 2021Donna ““Well what a rustic wee gem, quiet and tranquil and had a ball.”
So close to everything but far away enough to natural surroundings. And our little doggy love the place to”.
- Donna, February 2021Harry “Rustic retreat bach was exactly as advertised.”
Cool bach for a small family.
- Harry, January 2021Mark “Perfect for us and our 2 dogs.”
So close to everything!
- Mark, December 2020Marian “We did have a nice stay here and it is a nice place.”
Couple of things that let it down so couldn't give excellent rating. Cooker top was either too hot or too cool...thermostat buggered? Very tricky to cook with. The bed was like a rock and so were the pillows, unfortunately I had very little sleep due to this. Bushes on the drive could do with being cut back. No turning space and so quite tricky to negotiate reversing down and out, especially in the dark and heavy rain. Diane was very nice and kept in touch. A spa pool on the deck would be an awesome addition. Great that we could take our dogs with us too.
- Marian, July 2020Thanks for your review and letting us know about the cooker top, the faulty element has now been replaced. The beds have thick new topper pads and there’s a selection of pillows spread across the two bedrooms. Bachcare

Great view of the river and the bungy; be sure to bring your binoculars.
- Sue, November 2018Keely “Yes, the property is lovely and fit for purpose.”
- Keely, September 2018Lesley “This property is a bit tired, cold and damp.”
The driveway is not easy. The front house is quite close. Probably ok in summer.
- Lesley, August 2018Thank you for your review. The property owner has since installed a huge heat-pump as well as new blinds and curtains so it’s now much warmer and cosier in the winter months. Bachcare
