For holiday supplies, the local store is a moments walk away, or hit the beach for days in the sand and surf an easy 5 minute walk away - the outdoor shower is ideal after days at the beach! About the location

A 10-minute drive from Tutukaka or a 2 hour 25 minute drive from Auckland and you'll find yourself in the marine paradise that is Matapouri. Matapouri is one of those idyllic spots, where every corner you turn you'll find yourself in awe as you stumble upon another azure blue cove lined with Pohutukawa or golden dunes. There's much to explore with Whale Bay nearby being accessed via a 15 minute bush walk, and of course the legendary mermaid pools a large natural set of rock pools set against the ocean perfect for swimming in at low tide. All of our Matapouri holiday homes are pre-inspected prior to your arrival and are ready for instant online booking.

“Hadn't realised that one bedroom is accessed via another bedroom.”

This is fine for families but we were 6 adults so was awkward for going to the bathroom in the night. Other than that the bach was lovely with a beautiful garden and well-equipped.

“Great spot!”

Has loads of space and everything you may need plus more! Shower has awesome pressure, fireplace, ample parking, activities for every kind of weather, entertaining area for any occassion! Price was great for what you get. Only miner negatives were hot water was short lived for a family of 5. For fee charged for cleaning is steep considering everything had dirty finger marks on doors, food on kitchen cupboard doors . But other then that it was amazing! Photos are older on website and don't do it justice.

“This property had everything we needed for a fantastic weekend away.”

There were only two of us, and the way the property is laid out, means you can still feel cosy despite the property being able to sleep at least seven more people! The kitchen is spacious and was very well stocked with equipment allowing for ease of use for cooking meals. The bach is also only a couple of minutes walk to Matapouri beach and there are a number of great walks to do in the area. We loved staying here and would definitely stay again.

The house is well equipped, comfortable and homely. The outdoor area is great, from the beer fridge, outdoor shower and furniture. The indoor is perfect too, especially the large and very open lounge. The neighbors also are very lovely :)

“Awesome property, obviously a place thats made many amazing memories, we loved it!”

Such a great set up for a family and really appreciated all the toys, books and beautiful wild life. Like any batch there was a bit of sand, some cobwebs and so on, but we chose this place so our youngest could crawl around happily and it was clean enough for that. The outdoor shower only ran scalding hot, and there was some sort of funky smell under the stove (probably a dead rat under the house) but didn't hinder the experience.

“Property itself was great, a well-equipped kitchen and plenty of room for us all.”

A great spot, 1 minute down the road to the store and then 6 mins to the beach! Had a nice big outside space surrounding the property too which we took full advantage of. Only downside was the lockbox code we were given was incorrect or it was broken - luckily a door was unlocked but this also meant we couldn't lock up the house during our stay (think this is more of a fault on Bachcare's behalf).

The house is fine but cleanliness left to desire particularly considering how much bachcare charges for it, e.g. dead insects with the cutlery, layers of dust on some of less seen but still visible surfaces. Not enough cutlery or China for how many people can sleep there. Nowhere near enough hot water for the people either even with short showers. Otherwise great location and the outdoor shower is great.

“Kia ora, a nice, comfy and tidy holiday home.”

Stocked with everything you need. Large outdoor space. Heated outdoor shower was a treat. The bird song in the morning was lovely and the Kereru (native pigeon's) visiting during the evening was a real delight. If you are taking your own linen, sheets/pillow cases and blankets- also include tea towels and bath mats. We enjoyed our stay.

“Excellent property in a beautiful spot.”

Handy to main beach, short walk to whale bay and general store. Enjoyed the outdoor shower after a dip. Had everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. Only downsides was that linen was not provided, some of the lights did not work and the property was not particularly clean when we arrived. Lots of spider webs throughout the rooms, ants in the kitchen and dusty floors. We had to do a quick clean before settling in. However these minor details didn’t detract from a great holiday.

“We reported an issue to Bachcare with rotting fish under the house causing odour issues (we couldn't use the main bedroom the first two nights of our stay due to the smell) and was advised the property manager would be in touch.”

No one called or emailed and we were left to deal with it ourselves. Otherwise a lovely home, but wouldn't book through Bachcare again.
