Welcome to the original Jack's Hut! A Lake Tarawera stay like no other and a piece of NZ history.

Initially built for a South Otago farm in the 1930s, by Jack himself, this heritage hut is now perched on a hill in Lake Tarawera boasting some stunning views of the surrounding native bush and the lake itself. This accommodation oozes rustic charm and simple pleasures, from the swing chair under the covered deck looking out over the views to the cedar spa pool filled with spring fed water.

Jack's Hut is split between two huts - the main hut has a queen bed, a small table and chairs and a gas fireplace. The second hut comes equipped with a few kitchen essentials including a mini-fridge, kettle, plenty of pot, pans and utensils and a separate toilet. On the deck, there is outdoor seating for summer and a BBQ for all cooking. Lastly, at the end of the deck, there is a hot outdoor shower, which is sheltered and private.

A four-minute walk will have you at Rangiuru Bay beach and the public tennis courts - be sure to pack your rackets! Stoney Point is two-minutes walk away and has a play area, stunning nature walk along the lakefront and great fishing off the wharf - bring the catch of the day home to cook for dinner!

If you love outdoor activities and nature then this is the perfect getaway. The Tarawera Water Taxi is available to take you for a trip across the lake to the start of the Tarawera falls walk which leads to one of the most impressive waterfalls in New Zealand. The Water Taxi will also take you to hot water beach for a soak in the lake where the water is heated by the volcano.

Also, one of the oldest mountain bike networks in the country is just 20 minutes drive away at The Redwoods. Master crafted trails, unbeatable riding surfaces with well-drained volcanic soils. With varying topography and fantastic scenery, it's no wonder mountain bikers regard it as a premier riding destination. You can hire bikes or bring your own.

Charming, simple and definitely one of a kind - Jack's Hut awaits!

Great little escape spot to hide away from the busy world and do the simple things, read a book, have a chat & enjoy the view over a glass of wine or two.

A lovely place to stay, We unwound and had time to really relax. Walks around the blue and green lakes was a great way to see the area.

This property is the absolute perfect little romantic getaway! It has everything you'd possibly need. We were amazing by all the little extra touches and the effort that has gone into this place. The bed was cozy and warm and the hot tub is fun to run and relaxing. It is close to the beautiful lake Tarawera where we had easy access and a great day out. We cant thank Dave & Angie enough for their warm welcome and touching hospitality. Definitely a five star from us, we can't wait to come back!

What a beautiful property to stay at. We loved the hut and the story behind it, it’s the perfect size for two and the set up is great. Our favourite parts were the outdoor bath, the swing seat, and of course the view. We will be back for sure!
