Lisa “Exactly as advertised except the view is far more spectacular in person!”
Mesmerising. A gorgeous property. Warm and cosy with lovely amenities. Perfect, peaceful location yet just a few minutes from cafes and bars. We absolutely loved our stay, totally rate this property and will be back! The Nespresso machine also has a milk frother.

Robert “Loved everything about the house.”
The local hikes were so nice and conveniently located.
- Robert, March 2024Tim “Our second stay here.”
Lovely place thank you
- Tim, December 2023Lydia “Enjoyed the quietness, clean No TV - that’s the best thing”
- Lydia, October 2023Elizabeth “What a stunning piece of property and bach to stay at.”
We had such a wonderful time- easy walk to the shops, hikes, and the view is outstanding. Thank you so much.
- Elizabeth, September 2023Sharon “Wonderful stay, very clean, the towels and sheets lovely.”
Close to town
- Sharon, March 2023Jon “Absolutely fantastic place, we rented this for our wedding in Akaroa.”
The only negative was I got 6 bug bites over my stay, from the bed. and the state of the driveway access wasn't up to handling the van I had. I had to drive up past the house above to exit and at times had to boost it to pass the rutted surface. I didn't have the option for 4.5 rating but that's what I give, I would still recommend to anyone and we will more than likely return for our anniversary. Jon
- Jon, February 2023Thank you for reviewing your recent stay here, Jon. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your recent holiday, so much so that you are planning to return again. Your comments about getting bites while in bed have been discussed with the owners and manager of the property, who have passed on that they have not had reports of this in the past or since your visit but will monitor this. They did mention that there the windows and doors should be left closed to prevent bugs getting in. We look forward to hosting you again, Jon. Congratulations on your wedding! Bachcare
Jenny “Amazing place to stay, just a quick walk in to Akaroa but it feels like you're a world away.”
- Jenny, January 2023Donna “Beautiful house with gorgeous views and everything needed for a comfortable stay .”
Wish the windows opened more than a gap but understand it's probably a safety issue. Was very surprised to see a steep gravel drive when we arrived as description doesn't mention anything other than flat parking and room for boat etc.. this presented a large problem for us as we couldn't tow our boat up it and had to find other arrangements for it for our 3 day stay. 2 wheel drive vehicles struggle on the gravel , might be worth mentioning? Other than this once we were sorted we were able to relax to birdsong and a wonderful holiday home thanks
- Donna, January 2023Hi Donna. Thank you for reviewing your stay here. This property does have quite a steep gravel driveway which should be noted by our guests. This is now mentioned in the special conditions on the property listing. We hope that you were still able to enjoy a relaxing holiday at Otahuahua and we look forward to hosting you again. Bachcare
Paul “Loved the property and presentation.”
For the quality of the property I was surprised the ironing board was so cheap and flimsy. To be fair that is me being picky. I have recommended this property to my friends and booked for next year. One thing I did think was the road into the properties was hard to navigate in a non 4 wheel drive vehicle as so steep and uneven so better maintenance there would be great.
- Paul, January 2023Tim “Lovely spot with great views of Akaroa and waterfront/harbour.”
A relatively easy stroll to town. Would highly recommend. Things of note but not negative:- no washing machine or TV. The bird song is amazing, but starts early in the morning.(We enjoyed it!!)
- Tim, December 2022Tamara “Beautiful views, lots of windows and doors to view your surroundings from every way possible.”
- Tamara, November 2022Rohan “A beautiful, well designed and a super comfortable bach with the best view!”
We loved our stay here and also loved the property managers gesture of leaving the heating on for us before we arrived - thank you
- Rohan, July 2022Stephanie “The house was great however the photos need to be updated.”
The sofa is different in the photos. We found hair (long) throughout the house. Beds were comfy, kitchen well equipped. Gorgeous views over the water, to Akaroa and a beautiful walk into town.
- Stephanie, June 2022Cath “Excellent Bachcare!”
So easy with excellent communication. Will be back, thank you
- Cath, April 2022Carolyn “Very relaxing, fantastic views, even on a stormy day.”
- Carolyn, April 2022Kate “Nice house, pity I couldn’t relax because it was dirty.”
I wasn’t comfortable walking around in bare feet after they turned brown on the floors and had to vacuum crumbs and hairs of of furnishings before sitting on them. Emailed requesting a partial refund only to receive no response. Dissapointed.
- Kate, March 2022Nic “A fantastic place with amazing views.”
It has everything you need for a great holiday.
- Nic, March 2022Chris “Such a great spot we had a great time and will definitely be back”
- Chris, March 2022Geoff “Wow We had an amazing stay.”
Unbelievable views, warm and very modern and so close to town. Would definitely stay again. Geoff and Terri
- Geoff, February 2022Sarah “Great location with fantastic views over Akaroa.”
The property is small but has everything you need. We did find a lot of pet hair in the property which was disappointing.
- Sarah, January 2022Ohgeon “A decent size of two bedroom batch with great view.”
- Ohgeon, December 2021Jeremy “Fantastic well presented property hat had everything needed for relaxing weekend away , stunning views over the harbour to Akaroa and the hills beyond.”
Would certainly return
- Jeremy, December 2021Madi “The place itself is small but lovely.”
It is very close to the neighbours so if you’re outside or have the windows open you can hear them chatting. Overall I would say the place is nice but overpriced for what it is.
- Madi, December 2021Pete “Great stay but over priced”
- Pete, November 2021Mandy “Just Fabulous!”
The view is AMAZING and it is so clean, cozy and comfortable. Would definitely love to come back!
- Mandy, September 2021Leo “An amazing view overlooking Akaroa township.”
- Leo, June 2021Anna “Clean, modern, and cosy.”
Great location and we'll appointed. Stunning view looking back at Akaroa.
- Anna, April 2021Andre “Loved our stay here!”
Took our wee 18 month old, he loved playing at the bench and the bach was a good safe wee spot for him. Beds are very comfortable, which is fantastic as our backs aren't that great. View is awesome! Great wee place.

The property
Welcome to Otahuahua! The name Otahuahua means the place of collecting eggs and is also the Māori name for Children's Bay, which is just below this wonderful holiday home. Stunning and iconic Akaroa views pour in the large windows, perfectly framed to offer an unforgettable backdrop whether you're waking up, lounging out, or even while you're preparing a delicious holiday meal. An intimate spot, for those seeking a very special break. You'll be just a 10-minute walk from town, with all its cafes, shops and other attractions, and if you're up for an adventure on dry land, there is great access to local walking tracks from Otahuahua. The must-do Children's Bay Walkway starts by the beach, two minutes walk from the house. This takes you through native woodland and up along the top of the peninsula with spectacular views. This quiet retreat not only feels like a little hideaway amongst the trees, it is also one of the very few truly waterfront houses around Akaroa Harbour. Being very recently rebuilt, it has all the modern comforts you might need to make it feel like home during your stay. There's a great outdoor sundeck and BBQ for outdoor dining, a heat pump for ideal temperatures all year long, and even the must-have Nespresso machine, so don't forget to pack your pods! The birdlife in the garden and in the bay fill the air with remarkable birdsong and dawn chorus in the mornings. There will be bellbird, tui, kereru, quail (some may be brave enough to come onto the deck), morepork (calling at night), kingfisher, heron, falcon, oystercatcher, geese, and lots more! On a fine day and at high tide, there will be plenty of people out on the water at the bay. If you plan to bring your jet skis to get out on the water, this is the ideal place to set-up! There is also ample private, drive-on, flat parking on-site. If you're up for an adventure on dry land, there is great access to local walking tracks from Otahuahua, and you'll be just a 10-minute walk from town. Discover something wonderful, Otahuahua is ready and waiting.
Please note guest will need to supply their own Nespresso pods.
Please note that as there are no barriers around the cliff edge to prevent falls, all guests should take extreme caution in these areas.
As the property has unfenced access to the beach, adults should closely supervise young children while outside to ensure they are safe around water.
Please note that access is through two gates (one at the beach) and up a steep and rough gravel road. if towing a boat you will need a 4WD. Once on the property, the on-site parking is level. Please ensure both gates are closed as there may be grazing animals.
Please note a bond may be charged at certain times of the year. One of our team members will contact you if this is required for your booking.About the location
