Livia “What a fabulous place!”
We loved everything about it. Such a little dream...gorgeous architecture, fun midcentury touches, and LAMPS! Yay lamps! So rare in NZ. Beds super comfy. Just loved it. Glad you're taking such good care of this amazing gem, and sharing it as well!

Anna “We loved this place.”
It had a wonderful atmosphere, a superb view and the fire was toasty. Thanks very much.
- Anna, June 2023Karen “To be quite clear, one room with a bath and twin basin, one single toilet (separate), and one shower ‘room’ cubicle size; unfortunately the property is on a number of websites and with varying numbers of bathrooms, so rather confusing and therefore could be a bit ambitious if you had 6 adults .”
The house is up a very steep hill with the most amazing views of the bay and a wrap around deck, the property is very quirky, it had apparently undergone an upgrade recently, however that appeared to be a new dishwasher and possibly wifi judging by previous comments. The house was very cold when we arrived particularly downstairs (26 degrees outside) and we got the distinct impression of somewhere un-aired and not particularly clean. For example top and bottom sheets, pillowcases were clean, duvet covers were not, and the draining board in the kitchen was dusty. Overall not the best Bach we have ever stayed in, but we did have a lovely time in Akaroa itself.
- Karen, February 2023Thank you for reviewing your recent stay here, Karen. We have revised this property's listing with regards to accuracy of the bathroom count and updated the external channels accordingly. Your comments regarding the presentation of the property and linen have been discussed with our local team. The issues identified fall below our standard and will be addressed for future bookings. We hope you were still able to enjoy a relaxing holiday here and that we will host you again in future. Bachcare
Kirsten “Really enjoyed our stay here this long weekend.”
Quite a rural spot up a tricky driveway, but worth it if you want to feel like you are in the middle of the forest but still be only a few minutes to amenities. Firewood was left for us at the front door and after the fire was going was incredibly cosy, although bedrooms took awhile to heat and particularly the far one was a little cool on the first night. Possibly could be worth bringing a small heater if using all three bedrooms. The bird life from the deck was some of the best we have seen. House and furnishings are older but suit the style and kitchen was well equipped and beds were really comfy with good linen. A typical kiwi bach. Would definitely recommend.
- Kirsten, June 2022Melanie “Spent 9 days and enjoyed the bird life, spectacular views from the house and walks.”
The house is comfortable just quite worn and overpriced in my opinion for not having wifi and a few of the features of other properties in this proice range.
- Melanie, April 2022Thank you for your review. This property has now undergone refurbishment as at October 2022. We appreciate the feedback provided and hope to see you again in the near future. Bachcare
sid “The house is adequate with fantastic views.”
..and some great fauna will visit the house as well. But it is a bit tired and needs a bit of a refresh. Not sure it was value for money, when we visited. But did I mention the views!!

David “Very nice, comfortable, and in a lovely and convenient location, but overpriced”
- David, January 2022Cate “The house is tired.”
Carpet is stained and loose. Needs replacing. Surfaces were not clean and house smelled. Overall vastly over priced for its condition. Smell of rubbish also. Deck with view was best part of the home. Cleaning- carpet needed vacuuming- found chocolate wrappers from previous renters. Just really poor all around.

Jindal “This property is suited for winter cold months.”
avoid the propoerty for summers. the bed room area is sweating hot and there is no way you can turn the heat off..
- Jindal, December 2021Gary “A nice property with stunning views over the bay.”
A quiet location. As it's quite a way up the hill and a short drive to the main town, you will need to use your car. The property does not have WIFI, so be prepared to buy more data if your plan is not unlimited. The lounge furniture is out of the 1980s and needs updating.
- Gary, October 2021Sarah “The place has a lovely feel & outlook.”
We chose it as it looked relaxing, cheerful & suitable for our family of four. It is up a steep road to the house which gives a great view over the harbour, surrounded by trees & native birds. Maybe a recent change in management has led to a number of gaps that could be easily remedied. The wrap around deck is a real asset.
- Sarah, October 2021Robyn “This property has a great living and outdoor area with gorgeous views.”
As a winter get-away it was cosy with the log fire, and we would happily stay again.
- Robyn, July 2021Mary “Wonderful retreat with superb views and very, very helpful hosts.”
Be aware though no wifi and poor mobile coverage.
- Mary, June 2021Jan “Delightful house Definitely a tree house with great views”
- Jan, May 2021Warwick “An excellent and interesting building with one of the best views in Akaroa.”
We loved the relaxing environment with its changing harbour vistas, bush surrounds, kereru feeding on outside berries, ample kitchen and bedroom facilities, and range of locations within the house and property for sitting or moving around. Great for a family or just a couple. TV reception is Freeview and there's no Wifi, but these days phones can be used as hot points, and access to Akaroa shops and cafes is only 10 minutes down the hill.
- Warwick, February 2021Catherine “The view was exactly as expected - amazing.”
The property had all the space we needed and by going the extra mile, the property managers made our stay truely enjoyable.
- Catherine, January 2021Colin “Very friendly welcome by the Host and a great house with a stunning view.”
Was a bonus having the Kereru chatting and perching close to the balcony.
- Colin, January 2021Brian “A really great place to hang out in.”
Excellent views and tree setting makes for a pleasant stay. Kereru and bellbirds a real highlight. Character architecture and period pieces of furniture provide nice chilled vibe.
- Brian, December 2020Julie “Large spacious house with outstanding views and a great deck but lounge furniture was really old and uncomfortable.”
Kitchen was great though and has absolutely everything you could need.
- Julie, October 2020Lisa “A lovely warm and welcoming house with all amenities that you could want.”
Could have used a microwave but no big drama. Spectacular views of Akaroa harbour. Would definitely recommend.
- Lisa, September 2020Martin “Cool shady house in winter but good heat pump & log fire.”
- Martin, August 2020Roz “Great place to stay in Akaroa with access to the township as well as the hills for walks.”
Fabulous views. The log fire was welcome given the frosty weather.
- Roz, August 2020Sarah “Thank you was a fab location, loved the retro decor, just lovely.”
- Sarah, July 2020Mary Kate “Awesome house, the deck is great for star gazing.”
Great place, easy walk to town, and I would definitely stay again.
