    “I really enjoyed my stay at this delightful property, a very tidy location set amongst mandarin trees and nestled below a beautiful bush-clad hillside.”

    Only a few minutes from the bustling little township of Takaka, but it feels like a peaceful rural oasis, and so warm and cozy. Blissful to have evenings with no TV but an excellent sound system for music. Instructions supplied in advance were perfect and I had no problem in getting there safely and easily.

Our linen service will provide all sheets, pillowcases, towels, bath mats, and tea towels for your stay. We’ll also make up the beds for you prior to arrival and strip them down after your departure. Pillows and duvets are provided at the property.

The property

Not your typical bach, Bay Cottage is a true retreat from the hustle and bustle of busy holiday spots. Set amongst a lush green working orchard, this studio-style cottage is a beautiful, quiet, and romantic escape where you can really switch off. No TV, just a symphony of cicadas, native birds and the wind blowing through the organic avocado and mandarin trees. The bright and comfortable cottage has one bedroom and lounge area, a separate kitchenette, and a bathroom. The kitchenette is well set-up for quick breakfasts and light lunches, while the bedroom/lounge area offers relaxing indoor-outdoor flow onto the surrounding rural scenery. Two sundecks sit on either side of the cottage, one sheltered and one sun-drenched; no matter where the wind blows, you'll find the ideal spot to sit and enjoy a glass of wine, or to breathe in some fresh air while you read your book. When it's time for dinner, light up the BBQ and put your feet up. Alternatively, Bay Cottage is a quick five-minute drive to Takaka township offering some great places to eat. We also highly recommend driving a little bit further, 15-minutes up the coast, to the world-famous Mussel Inn! For days exploring Golden Bay, you are only 10 minutes from Pohara Beach, and there are lots of local walks around the area, including the famous Abel Tasman tracks. Unplug and find yourself refreshed at Bay Cottage!

As the property is part of a working orchard there's a chance of tractors working and people picking. It’s important that guests take personal responsibility for their safety in and around the property.

Takaka is the main town within the Golden Bay area, with a strong community of friendly and arty locals. Start the day off with a quality coffee and a spot of shopping before heading to one of the many nearby attractions such as the Waikoropupu Springs, Kahurangi National Park or the Golden Bay Art Trail.
