About the location
Carterton was established in 1857 to be the home for workers building the road between Greytown and Masterton. It is the main entry point for those wanting to explore the Tararua Ranges, with access through Mount Holdsworth. Carterton has a number of antique shops, and local craft outlets. The vineyards in Gladstone and Stonehenge Aotearoa are just two of the attractions on offer.
