    “The bach itself was well appointed.”

    The welcoming fruit bowl, milk and bottle of wine was a lovely surprise. The views from the deck are stunning. The only drawback for us were the steps - although the listing did mention 57 steps - the pictures did not convey the steepness. We should have factored that we would be climbing those steps up and down each day to get to the beach. Aside from that, great spot with perfect weather our entire stay and a safe swimming area. Bach itself was better than described and was very comfortable ...

Cosy furnishings and coastal touches create the perfect environment for everyone to relax and unwind. Upon arrival hook up the sunshade and enjoy the benefits of outdoor living offered by the north facing deck for the duration of your stay. Enjoy unsurpassed harbour views which take in most of the 1 kilometre long white sandy beachfront, the entrance to Whangaruru harbour across to Bland Bay and the Rawhiti Peninsula as a distant backdrop. From the front of the property the southern entrance to the beachfront is about 200m down the hill, where you can enjoy safe swimming at all tides from the shade of a large Pohutukawa tree. Or you can proceed less than 200m in the other direction to the end of Rapata Road, where there is a lookout over the Bay and a walking track down to the rugged coastline. On a mid-year getaway to the Winterless North, electric heating will ensure you're kept at the perfect temperature. Flick on the Sky TV with movies, lifestyle, and children's channels, curl up with a good book, or just chat over a cuppa as you admire the view out the windows. There is also complimentary WiFi on hand for posting your favourite holiday snaps! A fully equipped kitchen with a breakfast bar is ready and waiting for you to prepare some delicious sides to go with all your classic Kiwi favourites hot off the BBQ. Access to this house from its parking area is via a stepped pathway of 57 steps. This may make accessing this property difficult for those with limited mobility.

As there is a retaining wall with sections without a barrier, all guests should take care in this area due to the risk of falls.

About the location

Oakura is a family friendly beach, and is just a short drive from Paihia, but is a welcome alternative for those who prefer to stay away from the main tourism centres. Oakura Bay is a good base for those wanting to explore the many Department of Conservation walks in the area. Close by are easy boat ramps, and the beach offers a world of wonders for children to explore. Whangaruru and Bland Bay are also good holiday spots worth visiting.
