The downstairs rumpus/bedroom area had a putrid musty odour. After a sleepless night due to the smell the family members had to cram into the top part of the house because they refused to sleep down there. Bachcare were rung the next day and the issue was reported. Bachcare tried to contact the owners to remedy the problem. We also had a blocked toilet during our stay and had to use a plunger we found at the premises to clear the blockage. When we arrived, there was a deep open drain at the side of the house where recent plumbing work had been done to the drain/sewerage pipes and not filled in. This may have been the cause of the smell as the room was next to it. We did receive an email the day of arrival warning us of the exposed drain pipes and the danger of the deep drain. Not ideal when we had young children staying. The owners did not respond during our stay and we never heard any response from them until 12th May, 24 days after we reported the problem. We had numerous contact with Bachcare, who were also waiting for the owner's response. Several family members cut their holiday short due to the crammed sleeping arrangements. When the owners finally responded they said they would not give any compensation of any sort and their reason being that they accused us of having a dog at the dwelling. When we asked for evidence of this they did not produce any. We did have family members who live nearby call in when going for a walk with their dogs on a couple of occasions during our stay but only entered the section and not the dwelling. There is a camera outside the dwelling which is supposed to be switched off during your stay but we now think this may not be the case. Other negative aspects were the wooden stairs up to the house are slippery and dangerous when wet and it rained most days during our stay and one kitchen cupboard had lots of expired food in it, one dating back to 2018! Obviously these are never checked. All in all our stay was less than satisfactory and it wasn't the perfect family holiday pad for us. What was supposed to be a happy family time together after a recent bereavement in the family was spoilt by these issues.
Thanks for your feedback. We're sorry your stay didn’t meet expectations, especially during such an important time for your family. We’ve addressed the issues raised with our local team and the owner. While we regret the delay in their response, Bachcare provided a refund as a gesture of goodwill. To clarify, the external camera was not active during your stay. The owner was notified about dogs on the property by neighbours, and as per the listing, pets are not permitted. We appreciate your comments and are using them to improve future guest experiences. Bachcare
