The pictures in the listing do not do justice to the views and tranquil surroundings of this Bach - waking up to the view from the master bedroom is a highlight and we spent every evening sitting out on the deck soaking in the atmosphere! Amazingly clean, comfy beds and everything you need is supplied with easy instructions to follow so you don't get stuck. Worth noting that you must boil the drinking water (bring bottled water if preferred) and would recommend some insect repellent for the evenings spent enjoying the deck, while cooking the BBQ or heading down to the water which is just a 20 second walk down the pathway. The house is also well set up for when the weather isn't so flash outside, including games, Alexa, digital TV and a nostalgic DVD collection. We spent a week here and it was the perfect base for a memorable family holiday.

Sue “This was a beautiful property located in an equally beautiful place.”
The owner has thoughFt about everything you might need and the house is very thoughtfully furnished which made it a fantastic holiday home. Unfortunately for me I found the upstairs mattress very soft and if one moved the other did too. But I wouldn’t let this stop us from booking it again, thank you for a wonderful stay and so much attention to detail. We loved it.
- Sue, February 2023Theresa “One of the most beautiful locations we have stayed in on our visit.”
Amazing scenery and outdoor balcony, access the the water. We enjoyed wine trips to Renwick (much preferred over Blenheim) and not to miss the little art gallery in Havelock. We used the outdoor BBQ and well-stocked kitchen. Thanks you for such a lovely stay.
- Theresa, February 2023Debbie “Beautiful spacious home- like a grand old Dame .”
Spoilt for choice re entertainment options. Close to Picton , Blenheim and Havelock , but was a bit nervous about road damage . Perhaps would be good to mention boil notice .
- Debbie, January 2023David “House was lovely, clean, brilliant etc.”
Honestly my only issue is with your business model. My mental model was such that I expected Bachcare to work like other sharing economy services. When I went to contact the owner to ask questions I couldn't. It felt to me like a flaw that I had to email, manually. All it would take is to have a message function inside the app and none of this would matter and/or a basic explanation of how Bachcare works. The only reason I didn't give a full happy listing as regards the accuracy of listing is that the photos did not show just how fabulous the place was. Photos need to be more accurate in terms of the context, the surroundings. I didn't know what was immediately surrounding the house or how fabulous the view was.
- David, December 2022Lisa “A very beautiful spot with everything you need.”
The view is amazing.
- Lisa, October 2022Melanie “We did not want to leave.”
What a wonderful place - the setting, the home, the management, the upstairs bedroom, the well equipped kitchen. Everything about this place is magical. We hope to be back sometime. A thank you to Sandy the Bachcare manager - one of the best-managed places we have stayed at. Please Note as at Oct 2022 the road to Mahakipawa via Havelock is open, the road from Picton is closed and likely to remain so for a few weeks - you can still get to this bach.
- Melanie, October 2022Jenny “Splended views of the Sounds.”
Great lounge and dining areas with well appointed kitchen Both bedrooms were extremely comfortable. Need to upgrade extra bed requested for extra adult. This was not comfortable.
- Jenny, March 2022Kelly “Fantastic stay.”
Such an awesome place to genuinely relax. Nothing like waking up to a view like this, then having nothing to do but enjoy the beautiful marlborough sounds. We stayed here with our 3 children, 9, 7 and 4 years. They really enjoyed it. Loved exploring up and down the beach but were a too scared to swimming as the water was quite muddy. They still had fun on the kayaks and finding crabs on the beach. Great location, not far from picton or Blenheim. Comfortable bed, lovely big bath, well stocked kitchen. Our older 2 shared a queen sized bed and our little one slept in the single, this worked for us. Huge DVD collection also, but not many kids movies. Highly recommend and would stay here again.
- Kelly, January 2022Kim “Nice and tidy house tucked away in the sounds.”
Was a great place to relax after doing the Queen Charlotte track.
- Kim, January 2022Cairy “Lovely property.”
Can't fault it. Location perfect. Everything you need is there. It Two small hints. 1: Take a water jugs, it's "boil water" 2: If you are a large man, take you own life jacket for the kayaks. Other than that, it is fantastic, also Tracey very helpful.
- Cairy, December 2021Sue “I would love to stay here again.”
Loved the spacious warm rooms. Very comfortable furniture. Views gorgeous and tidy and well equipped.
- Sue, December 2021Theresa “Was so relaxing from the moment we got out of the car, had the best sleeps and the home was cosy the weather was amazing will definitely be back, but next time we will bring our adult children as they would have absolutely loved it there.”
. the bird life was incredible and the water and birds being the only sound around was just priceless.. the garden was awesome so many things to find and I’m sure we never found it all.. everything inside and out has been really well thought out. Thank you so much for the wonderful stay at your home.
- Theresa, November 2021john “A lovely well appointed place with fabulous Sound views , outdoor seating and a great log burner fire.”
- john, October 2021Fay “This bach feels more like a home and it has the most beautiful views both across the Sounds and down them too, fantastic!”
The kitchen and bathroom are fairly new and there is comfortable furniture and lovely artworks, not your standard kiwi bach.....much better!
- Fay, March 2021Kaila “Awesome property, so peaceful and kid-friendly!”
And great customer service
- Kaila, January 2021Roz “Wonderful view and handy location.”
There is a steep path down to the beach which requires good footwear as the shells are very sharp. We appreciated being able to take the family dog (who also wore booties at the beach).
- Roz, January 2021pete “Nice location, but to get the view you have to stand.”
Great new kitchen and bathroom, but carpets are very tired.
- pete, February 2020Delighted you enjoyed this wonderful location and property. The carpets have now been replaced, giving Mahakipawa Hideaway a brand new look! Bachcare
Redmer “This place is a hidden gem!”
Superb location and gorgeous house (though getting a wee bit tired). Also excellent communication with property manager.

The property
For outstanding views of the Marlborough Sounds and beach access, you can't look past Mahakipawa Hideaway. Perched perfectly to look out on the beautiful Mahakipawa Arm of the Malborough Sounds, you will be able to feel the stress melt away from the minute you arrive. Put your feet up and take in every inch of the million dollar view over a cup of morning coffee or a glass wine at the end of the day. In the summer your holiday living is as easy as taking a wander down to the beach directly from the deck or firing up the BBQ. In the cooler months watch the sunset over the mountains and then snuggle up in front of the fireplace with a movie. This 2 bedroom home is ideally located to discover the excellent fishing of the Pelorus Sounds, launch your boat from the community ramp in the bay, or from the commercial ramp at Havelock Marina, where you can also join one of the many cruises. The cafes, bars, restaurants and small-town charm of historic Havelock are only a short 10 minutes drive away. The start of the Queen Charlotte Track at Anakiwa is only 9 minutes drive, and the famous Marlborough vineyards are just 25 minutes away. Mahakipawa Hideaway awaits!
Please note that the pullout bed is really only suitable for children and in the conservatory, not a bedroom.
As the property has unfenced access to the beach, adults should closely supervise young children while outside to ensure they are safe around water.
The property is partially fenced.
There are 2 kayaks available, with lifejackets (1x child and 2x adult)
There is a steep driveway to access off-street parking at this property.
Cell phone reception may be limited.
It is highly recommended to bring your own drinking water. Tap water in the property is advised to be boiled before drinking for safety.
Please note a bond may be charged at certain times of the year. One of our team members will contact you if this is required for your booking.About the location
