“This is the most amazing place to stay.”

Would highly recommend it to anyone. Particularly if you have older kids as they love staying in the sleepout. Should perhaps be renamed as a sleep long without being disturbed by their parents. And vice versa.

The property

Idyllic Beachside at Mahau Sound is a two-bedroom Marlborough Sounds holiday house. An idyllic holiday home offering all the sought-after rarities: absolute waterfront, all-day sun, a (virtually private) safe swimming beach and quick road access from the major centres! This holiday house boasts a fantastic location - often being described as one of the best in the region! Surrounded by native bush, with a large flat lawn at the front, that slopes down to join the beach at the front, the lawn is perfect for playing soccer or cricket. A creek fringed by ferns and glow worms runs along the back and side of the property. You'll be completely relaxed at this property, sitting on the expansive deck, the water lapping in front of you. For the ultimate romantic indulgence, soak in the outdoor bath under the stars or visit our glow worm grotto along the drive! Enjoy the landscaped native garden and the visits from Tui, Kereru (wood pigeon), Bell Birds, Piwakawaka (fantail), Quail, the local Heron and the occasional Weka. You can watch children play on the lawn or beach from the comfort of a deckchair or just relax in the outdoor beanbags or hammock with a cold drink and one of the many books from the library! The beach provides for safe swimming, water skiing, fishing or sailing, and kayaks and dinghies can be launched right in front of the property! There are two beaches for launching boats within 5 minutes drive and a marina with a concrete boat ramp 20-mins drive away in Havelock. This secluded retreat is only a 35-mins drive from Picton (along the Queen Charlotte Drive), 45 minutes from Blenheim and just over an hour from Nelson. The Queen Charlotte Track is a 10-mins drive away from great walking and mountain bike riding. At low tide, fresh oysters are 200m down the beach! This means that despite feeling like your own private sanctuary, it is a great launching pad for exploring the Sounds, wineries and restaurants of Marlborough. This Mahau Sound accommodation is very well appointed with all the mod-cons for gourmet chefs and those who want to relax. It comfortably sleeps 4 (one bedroom has a queen-sized bed, the other bedroom contains a single bunk bed). The place is perfect as both a romantic retreat for adults or an action-packed holiday location for one or two families. The easy accessibility, cosy wood-burner and sunny north-facing position make it an equal joy in winter and summer. The bach has been on Bachcare since 2009. Here's what the first Bachcare renters had to say: "What a wonderful spot!! Thank you so much for sharing it." (H&T, New York City, USA) and "We have fallen in love with the Marlborough Sounds, absolutely divine. Perfect bach, we love it!" (J&T, Hawkes Bay, NZ). Strictly no animals are allowed at this property due to the native wildlife in the area. Please note that it may be a good idea to bring water shoes for swimming as mussels and oyster shells are on the rocks. There is no boat mooring at this property.

Due to the fact the property has unfenced access to the bay, adults should closely supervise young children while outside to ensure they are safe around water

There is no TV connection. The TV is only for playing DVDs (of which there are plenty supplied!).

There is very limited sporadic mobile reception on the Vodafone network

Please note a bond may be charged at certain times of the year. One of our team members will contact you if this is required for your booking.

About the location
