Linen

Our linen service will provide all sheets, pillowcases, towels, bath mats, and tea towels for your stay. We’ll also make up the beds for you prior to arrival and strip them down after your departure. Pillows and duvets are provided at the property.

The property

Oroua Cottage is a 1930's Rangataua Bach with 3 bedrooms, one bathroom and a laundry. Oroura Cottage has a wood burner and sleeps 5 people, only 5 minutes drive to The Junction and Ohakune. Ideal for families, this Rangataua bach is fully furnished, including TV, DVD player, microwave and XBox. Situated by a forest reserve and Kiwi Conservation area, Oroua Cottage is an ideal base for mountain biking, horse riding and tramping. In the winter Oroua Cottage is only a 5 minute drive from the Junction and Ohakune Mountain Road. This Rangataua accommodation is an affordable option for the ski season. 5 mins drive from Junction Ohakune.

Please note, due to the close proximity to an 18 inch deep ditch that can get 2-3 inches of water after heavy rain, guests should closely supervise young children when outside to ensure they are safe around water.

Please note that the double bed in bedroom 3 is part of a double bunk set, however the top bunk is not available. Guests are kindly requested to not use the top bunk during their stay.

About the location

Ohakune is the ski capital for the North Island and your gateway to all the iconic features of the Ruapehu region. Perfectly based to jet off to the Bridge to Nowhere, the Tongariro Crossing or one of the many stunning alpine walks or mountain bike trails, it's a true haven for your next adventure. It's well worth the four and a half hour drive from Auckland or 90 minutes from Taupo in Winter or Summer! “We really enjoyed staying at this property.”

The fireplace was great and there was plenty of dry wood to use. The kitchen was well equipped and having extra heaters for the bedrooms was great. Would definitely stay here again.

“We had a great time at Oroua Cottage.”

The cottage had everything we needed and was a real home away from home. We had a power cut one night (through no fault of the owners/property manager). Jo got onto the electricity provider right away and sourced some candles for us in the meantime. We were very impressed and felt really well looked after. We also loved the location. Rangataua is a lovely, quiet settlement perfect for a family holiday.

“A nice cosy place to stay!”

Loved having the wood burner and there was plenty of dry firewood provided (just bring matches or a lighter with you as none here). Duvets were nice and warm, and the heaters provided kept the child's bedroom nice and warm. Kitchen was well equipped, apart from only 2 chairs at the kitchen table which meant the three of us had to take turns sitting for breakfast (passed on this feedback to the house owner, so hopefully more will be provided).

Great for relaxing in front of the fire or as a base for a variety of day activities near by. Easy bike ride along Dreadnought Rd to Ohakune, off from the main road.

“There were quite a few issues with the property which we faced on arrival: only one smoke alarm installed and it had a flat battery.”

Oven did not work. Washing machine only filled up with water and then stopped working. Glasses and some other dishes were not clean - needed to be washed before use. Can opener didn't work. Fuse kept tripping when heater and appliances plugged in at the same time. No water one morning because the pipes had frozen. Thankfully, Jo was able to assist us with most of these issues, but it certainly added a lot of stress to our holiday. The oven now works perfectly. Two new smoke alarms were provided the next day. Once the other issues are sorted it is a reasonably priced, basic family home to stay in. Lovely log fire and plenty of firewood provided, as well as an electric heater for each room meant we were always warm. Location just a few minutes from Ohakune was lovely.

“I suspect this Bach does not have insulation.”

With three heaters running the house was freezing at night. Good supply of firewood but even with fire and three heaters cranking it took two hours to warm the house in the morning. Had to pay a $78 cleaning fee on top of rental and booking fee for a two night stay but found a dirty sock in the largest bed. Under the blankets at the top of the bed so would’ve been discovered with just a quick check.
