“This property is an example of when you should really take previous reviews seriously.”

Yes the cost is low, but there are reasons for this. We found the road noise very instrusive, it didn't make for a peaceful stay. Being an old place there is no insulation to protect against outside noise or temperature. There are some not insignificant maintenance issues, the bar that holds the shower head falls out at the slightest touch, two of the three lights in the master bedroom don't work (tried changing bulbs around but didn't help). Yes the cost is low, but there are reasons for this. We found the road noise very instrusive, it didn't make for a peaceful stay. Being an old place there is no insulation to protect against outside noise or temperature. There are some not insignificant maintenance issues, the bar that holds the shower head falls out at the slightest touch, two of the three lights in the master bedroom don't work (tried changing bulbs around but didn't help). But the most concerning is the uneven flooring in the kitchen and other areas, combined with how the place often shakes when people move through it I wonder how much longer it will be standing for. When we arrived the water was turned off and the street for some reason, there was no mention of us needing to turn that on upon arrival. If considering this place make sure you understand what the place doesn't have - for example no WiFi, no aircon, no dishwasher, no face cloths. Proximity to the beach and shops etc are it's best features.

“We don't recommend this bach.”

It was really dirty when we got there, as the floor hadn't been swept or mopped and all the shelves were dusty. The hot water had been turned off for some reason, and our shower after a long day at the beach was cold!! The road noise kept waking us up, as there were dips in the road outside the house, so every time a truck or trailer would pass by, it would be very loud. If you just want a basic, cheap bach, then this would be it. It was just a bit too basic for us.

“To be honest the photos make the place a lot better than it actually is.”

It’s very very old. The deck is wobbly, the wood is rotten on the outside window and falling off. The roof inside is sagging like it will collapse. The ranch slider doesn’t open the full way, it’s also on a lean & not straight. You walk into the kitchen and the whole fall drops down like the floor is sunken, and the same in the bathroom, as if the wood or what ever is underneath is about to collapse. The whole floor is on a lean and not flat. It doesn’t feel like it’s very safe to stay in.

“Warm and cozy home, perfect to spend a few days near the beach.”

Good neighbors. The pictures make this house look bigger than what it actually is, but still a good place. Rooms a bit too small but clean and comfortable.

“It's pretty old and tired but what we expected for the price.”

Check that the hot water is on when you arrive We know everyone's doing their best to sort out the rodent in the roof and for promptly repairing the door lock. It could certainly do with some upgrades around security as we were concerned leaving our belongings with only one basic lock. Great location though and it's got a real traditional feel to it.

“This bach was not of a standard we would expect from Bachcare, and we would not recommend it to family or friends.”

We have stayed in a few older, well maintained baches across NZ. This bach is not well maintained, and raised many health and safety concerns for us, such as windows that were very stiff and difficult to close, an insecure external door, a hole in the floor in the bathroom and patches of spongy floor in the kitchen. It also had a pest problem throughout our 9 night stay - with a possum living in the ceiling space. With such a great location it is a shame the bach has been let go.
