Tania “The house was nice and warm and cozy with good supply of wood for the log burner and generally we were pretty happy with our stay.”
We were however very disappointed to find a large car parked in the double garage as having the double garage was a key selling point as we were bringing 4 mountain bikes. We rang Bachcare to see if it could be removed and they promised to ring back but didn't and as a result had to leave our vehicle parked outside. There was no linen on the bed in the room at the back of the garage - fortunately we had bought some of our own pillow cases. The blue metal bunk bed in the second upstairs bedroom is extremely squeaky and I don't know how anyone could use it and not keep the whole house awake - fortunately we were one person less than booked and didn't need to use it.
- Tania, July 2022Hi John. Apologies for the issues with your stay. Our managed service provider could have missed the linen on the studio bed due to the number of adults on the booking displaying as â2â - I have followed up with them to make sure all linen is covered for future bookings. Bachcare was not aware of the car parked in the garage. We have added a special condition on the listing to make sure guests are aware of car park capacity moving forwards. Bachcare
Anthony “Lovely accomodation, had a great time.”
- Anthony, June 2021Leigh “We loved this house.”
It was cosy and clean and had everything we needed. We especially appreciated the dry firewood and being able to store our mountain bikes in the garage.
- Leigh, April 2019Tammy “Overall a great stay.”
Quiet, safe road. Comfortable beds & pillows, good blankets, clean bedrooms and living areas. Great drying room with great water pressure and Hot water for the showers, use of the garage was a real bonus for the car. Well stocked kitchen utilities and appliances just like at home. Sky tv a real draw card for after the mountain. Wood Fire place was awesome at heating the house. Great location for walking to supermarket, bars and restaurants.
- Tammy, September 2018Heidi “Loved our stay at this lovely home in national park.”
Walking distance to shops, shuttle to snow, everything so convenient. The home was lovely with a beautiful open fireplace. Had everything you could possibly need, laundry facilities, drying room, well stocked kitchen, plenty of beds, board games, tv, etc.... The only problem was no WiFi was offered, which is unusual in 2018
- Heidi, July 2018We are so glad you loved your stay and we hope to welcome you back soon. We do have a range of properties that have Wifi available, just apply the Wifi filter when you are looking for a property. Unfortunately, this is one of our none Wifi properties. Bachcare

The property
Perfectly positioned on a quiet street in National Park Village sits this retrofit three-bedroom, two-storey holiday home, reminiscent of the traditional snow chalets of Europe. During ski season, Mountain Chalet is cosy and inviting, boasting a wood-burning fireplace and all the essentials to make your post-slope activities as enjoyable as your time spent on the mountain. On a summer getaway, youâll be perfectly positioned to enjoy an array of adventure activities. Why not take a trip on Whakapapaâs SkyWaka, the longest vertical gondola ride in New Zealand, and grab a bite to eat at the top where the views are truly unbeatable. Mountain Chalet offers a large double garage offering one available space for secure parking and storage of all your gear. A large grassy lawn provides parking for a campervan or boat, or just a fun place for the kids to play. Sliding glass doors invite the sun to fill the lounge, upstairs bedroom, and front decks, while views of Mt Ruapehu from the rear rooms let you check out the ski conditions before you head out. If you prefer to stay in, there is 5G capacity internet available for your "work from home" needs. Mountain Chalet is just 20 minutes drive from the ski fields at Whakapapa, and 45 minutes from Turoaâs snowy slopes. Appointed a UNESCO world heritage site for its cultural landscapes, the Tongariro National Park offers a range of fantastic walks. From short and easy through to long and challenging, whatever you choose youâll be rewarded with epic views, majestic waterfalls, and breathtaking landscapes. With your base right in the heart of National Park Village, youâll have no problem getting information on how to safely set out on the world famous Tongariro Crossing. Not for the faint hearted, this trek will see you traverse an active volcano, and Lord Of The Rings fans will love passing by Mt Ngauruhoe, otherwise known as Mt Doom. If youâre after a bit of rest and relaxation, this stunning part of New Zealand offers opportunities abound for both individuals and groups. From meditation and mindfulness, to spa treatments and hot springs, youâll find it all accessible by car. In the park youâll also find a selection of cafes, caravans and restaurants, just a 5-minute walk, and just a 10 minute drive away you'll find the Skotel in Whakapapa village, sporting expansive decks, sunset drinks, a great bar menu and casual dining. A charming base for your year-round National Park adventures awaits, here at Mountain Chalet!
Please note, there is a temporary backup vehicle parked in the double garage which takes up one space.
