Howard “Fantastic views and location.”
Upon entry the smell of pesticides was strong and we found many dead roaches and other insects on the carpet and one in our bed! The floor creaks quite loudly especially in the bathroom waking my wife during my night-time visits to the restroom. Rubbish was difficult to dispose. Price was high. Several dishes required washing before our use. The refrigerator froze our food the first night.

Dale “It’s a great Bach and we thoroughly enjoy going to it when we in that area.”
I would not hesitate to recommend it and if we come back to New Zealand again then we will most definitely try to stay there again. I would however suggest a check of glasses and bowls for cooking as we found it very short - we left you two wine glasses and a set of three plastic cooking bowls which might help. but a general check of kitchen ,dining equipment would help future visitors Otherwise Great perfect really love it THANKS Dale and Bridget Phillips ps. only publish the positive things please the others is us only trying to help
- Dale, February 2024Jake “This Bach had a great view of the beach up on the hill, and had a nice cozy vibe about it.”
It is quite basic, but still kept well. However it felt like we were their first visitors for the season and a few things didn't go well. The key code was wrong for the lockbox, and being public holiday it took over 30 minutes for bachcare to pick up and assist us in getting in. Once answered, the representative was very kind and apologetic and was pretty quick to resolve this issue. Once inside we dropped things and walked down to the beach, returning just before sunset hoping for a warm shower, but the boiler was not on and being electric and with an unusual switch, we weren't sure if it was on or not, so we waited for an hour for the quite large tank to heat up. We did email the bachcare that night in case we were unable to resolve the issue by morning, but never heard back from them. Finally, the freezer has a bit of a mess and was just one more unfortunate thing. Normally, I would understand the beginning of the season being hectic, but this was meant to be the final and most relaxing stop for a vacation I planned for my parents, and I thought this spot would be just that as was reflected in the price we paid. But it was just overall a nice place with several frustrating and time consuming issues that we were left with. I have no doubt that once back in the swing of things, this house will be a fine place to stay.
- Jake, October 2023Hi Jake. Thank you for leaving a review for your recent stay with us at Beach House on the Ridge. We are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your holiday spent here and that even with the issues mentioned your review score was positive. It is disappointing to hear of the lockbox issue, which will be investigated with our local team. There has also been negligence on our part in not preparing the property completely before your check-in, which has now led to a revision in our process. The communication you have received around these issues could have been handled with more urgency, however should not have been needed in the first place. We really do appreciate your feedback here and have shared these comments with both our local team and the property owners. With these issues addressed, we look forward to hosting you again in future. Bachcare
Tania “Lovely cosy house with a beautiful view.”
Perfect for family of four and great location- close to the mountain bike track and beach. Photos and listing are very accurate. We loved it and would stay again- thank-you.
- Tania, March 2023Emma “Listing was not clear on linen or towels provided which caused a lot of confusion and last minute stress at time of arrival.”
We the. arrived with dead AND alive cockroaches on the carpet which was not a great welcome. Otherwise lovely spot, loved the homeliness, views and had everything we needed.
- Emma, March 2023Thank you for your review of Beach House on the Ridge. we're sorry to hear there where issues with the cleanliness of the property. we have addressed the cleaning issues with the local team and thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. Bachcare
Emily “Comfortable beach bach, we enjoyed our two week stay.”
Very comfortable beds and clean. Good location on the ridge with views of the ocean and short easy walk 5-10 min down the hill to the beach (better than being further up the drive). Little kaiteriteri beach is perfect for kids and adults, we went to the far end by the rock pools each day and our 3 year old walked to there from the house no problem. The bach is also an easy 10 min walk to main kaiteriteri beach to catch the ferry and go to the shop or cafe. Downsides - yes it is made from wood so noisy at night as it cools down. Lack of extraction in the kitchen might be a problem in winter as you need to open doors and windows when cooking. Would be nice to have a dishwasher, salt & pepper and dryer included for this nightly rate.
- Emily, January 2023Thank you for reviewing your recent stay here, Emily. We are glad you enjoyed your holiday and had so many great things to say about the experience. Your feedback regarding the facilities is equally valued and will be passed on to the owners of the property. We look forward to hosting you again. Bachcare
Ilse “Great location, super clean & comfortable.”
Had everything one needed from a holiday house. Very comfortable beds! Beautiful views (hedges could use a trim for even better view). Old fashioned Bach, made up modern, charming interior & luxurious linen (additional charge). The wood house is quite creaky during day & night. Overpriced for what you are getting - but that seems to be Kaiteriteri.
- Ilse, January 2022Leigh “Beds were super comfy, location great, 5 minutes walk to both beaches.”
House creaked a lot at night.
- Leigh, January 2022Cathy “Great location and views, comfortable house.”
- Cathy, April 2021Marilyn “Great location, well equipped holiday home.”
The driveway is tricky, and you really need to either back in or out. Easy walking distance to Kaiteriteri village. Enjoyed our stay and would be back.
- Marilyn, March 2021Timothy “Lovely property, well located and easy to get to the beach.”
Bachcare put a lot of emphasis on cleaning over providing other information about the area. Unfortunately the property wasn't particularly clean on our arrival. We had booked a check out clean but had we actually cleaned the property to the standard requested by Bachcare in the information left in the property we would have been leaving it cleaner than when we found it!
- Timothy, March 2020Thanks for your review Timothy. We pride ourselves on our properties being sparkling clean and we're sorry your experience didn't meet our usual high standards. We're glad you liked the location and we hope to welcome you back again in the future. Bachcare
