Tucked away about ten minutes from the township of Waihi, this nine kilometre stretch of glorious beach is home to a bustling seaside community. A hugely family friendly area, it’s an ever-popular destination for the Summer holidays to kick back, relax and soak up the surf on one of New Zealand’s favourite Coromandel beaches.

Ideally situated for exploring out to Tauranga and the Mount (and only 30km south of Whangamata), or heading up to Coromandel and exploring the area.

Waihi, New Zealand

Waihi is a small town located in the Coromandel region of New Zealand's North Island. It has a rich history, primarily centered around gold mining. In the late 1800s, gold was discovered in the area, leading to a gold rush and the establishment of several mines.

The most significant of these mines was the Martha Mine, which began operations in 1878 and quickly became one of the largest gold mines in the world. Today, Waihi is a popular tourist destination, with many visitors drawn to the town's rich history and heritage.

The Waihi Arts Centre and Museum offers a fascinating insight into the town's past, while the historic railway station and Cornish Pumphouse are popular landmarks. The area is also home to several walking and cycling trails that take visitors through the beautiful surrounding countryside.

  • Orokawa Bay - A secluded beach located just a short walk from Waihi Beach, Orokawa Bay is known for its crystal-clear waters and stunning rock formations. It is accessible via a scenic walking trail and is a great spot for swimming and snorkeling.
  • Anzac Bay - A small and sheltered beach located in Bowentown, Anzac Bay is a great spot for families with young children. It offers calm waters and a playground, as well as picnic tables and barbecue facilities.
