1. Flock Kitchen & Bar ($$$)
Open for lunch and dinner, Flock Kitchen & Bar is one of the best along the coast for a quality meal! Their poke bowls are jam packed with flavour and their pavlova is one of the most refreshing – and classic – desserts in the Coromandel. It’s also a perfect place to simply grab a drink and watch the sun set. There’s definitely a reason why people are flocking here!

2. Colenso Country Café ($$)
Of all of the Tairua cafes, this one grabs our top spot. With a menu full of quality seasonal food available for brunch or lunch, and a super cute homewares shop, Colenso County Café is a delight. The property is lined with gorgeous mandarin orchards, incredible organic gardens and they even have workshops to learn how to make some of their fabulous dishes at home. Oh, and we can’t forget about their custom platters, which are reason enough to come to Tairua alone!
Budget range: $4-$18

3. Marina Bar and Grill ($$$)
Hands down some of the best seafood in the Coromandel, Marina Bar and Grill also comes with world class views. One of their quirkiest and most popular options is the ‘cook your catch’, where you can bring in your haul from a day at sea and they’ll prepare it for you to eat that very evening. They also serve their own craft beers – from their Paku Bay Brewing Co., which is all brewed on-site.
Budget range: $17-$39
Opening times: 12PM-10PM (summer only)
Address: Level 1, The Marina

4. Tairua Beach Club ($$)
Located in Tairua’s oldest building, the Tairua Beach Club is the perfect place for a romantic date night or a social gathering. Part of the international slow food movement, they only use locally sourced foods—like their delicious Coromandel oysters, Cathedral Cove hazelnuts and herbs grown on-site—which makes each dish a feast to remember! But nothing really beats their seafood linguine…words will never do justice to the amazing flavours in this dish!
Cuisine: Mediterranean + Fusion
Budget range: $5-$35
Opening times: 9:00AM-9:00PM
Address: 128 Paku Drive

5. Surf and Sand Takeaways ($)
Sometimes you just need a quick bite to eat after a day out at sea. Surf and Sand Takeaways is the perfect go-to spot for a takeaway meal. Their battered fish and chips and their scallops and oysters are absolutely world class. Plus, the short waits and classic friendly kiwi service will keep you coming back for more!
