4. Serial Griller ($)
After a full day of outdoor activities a sit-down meal is sometimes the last thing you want. The answer? Serial Griller: A labour of true burger love. Serial Griller’s burger mad owners offer Hahei a unique experience for those who like their food to take home, or to enjoy by the beach, watching the sunset. Quick and delicious with a range of American styled fast food burgers (including vegetarian) you can find them in Thelma the Container (Harsant Ave, Hahei, Saturday & Sunday 5pm – 8pm) or in Betty the Foodtruck in Whanganata (Monday 5pm – 8pm), Whitianga (Thursday 5pm – 8pm) and Tairua (Friday 5pm – 8pm). 5. Go Vino ($$)
While not technically located at Hahei Beach, an outing to Go Vino is definitely worth the short drive over to Cooks Beach. This tiny little restaurant offers awesome food, wine and cocktail options for an extremely reasonable price. They have a delicious range of tasty sharing plates from farm, garden and ocean, as well as tasty pizza options to be enjoyed dining in or takeaway. For those who are brave enough, we recommend the surprise menu, which consists of a nine-course meal for four people to share. It’s a small space so booking is recommended.
