Perched on the lower slopes of Mt Karioi in Raglan, The Glass House is a custom designed eco-sanctuary. Completely run on solar power; surrounded by farm land with grazing cattle and organic gardens, this off the grid luxury Raglan accommodation showcases the best of the west coast! The Glass House offers an idyllic haven to escape the stresses of everyday life. Our good friends at Eskrow recently paid a visit to this incredible home, with some stunning results – as seen in the images and video footage below! Introducing The Glass House to the Bachcare Luxury Collection!
Having grown up in Raglan, the owners wish was to have a property close to the waves that they had surfed growing up. A few years ago this special piece of land came on to the market, and they decided it was the perfect spot to get away from the hustle and bustle of city living. When it came to the plans for the house, showcasing the breath-taking panoramic views was essential. As a result, glass became a key aspect of the design and structure, hence the name – The Glass House. The land also provided enough space to graze their own cattle, and plant an orchard and veggie garden, adding to the properties off the grid, charming eco nature.
With huge floor to ceiling open bi-folding glass doors that open back to include the deck in the living space, you are brought right into the spectacular view of the Tasman Sea and Raglan Bar. The spacious lounge area at the centre of the home is perfectly complimented by the sociable open plan kitchen, creating an entertainers dream! The home’s open-plan, oasis like theme continues; with three generous size bedrooms and two bathrooms. The master bedroom is a retreat in its own right, expertly designed with bright and beautiful open spaces, complete with a double en-suite.
A favourite feature of the home is the infinity pool set into the deck – perfect for a dip to cool down on a hot summers day overlooking the jaw dropping vistas with your group! The deck is also a dreamy spot to park up for a cruisey al fresco barbecue.
The Glass House is the perfect spot to relax, suiting holidaymakers who want to escape and unwind. It’s away from the city, but close enough to Raglan to enjoy the local cafes, shops and surf spots. As part of the sanctuary experience, there is no TV, and although there is WiFi, The Glasshouse is a place you go to take yourself away from it all. Being surrounded by nature in a lovely modern home is all you need, along with a good book and a cold drink or two! The owners have found that the tranquility and amazing views of the sea and coastline, seem to be just what people are looking for.
When not luxuriating on site, this Raglan holiday home’s excellent location will delight surfers, with Ruapuke Beach easily reached within 20 minutes. This is a rugged and quieter classic west coast beach and also a great surf spot! Whale Bay and Manu Bay are also just down the road. For the walkers, there are some great tracks up Mt. Karioi close by too. When it comes to breakfast, one of the best spots in town has to be Rock-it Kitchen, also only 10 minutes drive from your retreat.
We think the owners sum up the experience perfectly – “We feel lucky to have found such a special spot in Raglan. It’s paradise for us and guests feel the same way. The feedback we’ve received so far has been incredible. For us The Glass House is more than just a holiday house, it refreshes and inspires you and gives you the space to remember and appreciate what you love in life”.
