What to do in Turangi!
Not far from Taupo is a small charming town known as Turangi. Turangi is the place to be for families wanting a hiking or skiing holiday away in the North Island. Nothing beats lounging about in hot pools after a long day skiing. Turangi has hot pools known as the Tokaanu Thermal Pools. These natural thermal pools are said to have healing powers and are suitable for any age to enjoy. Families can have access to the public bathing areas for around $8 a person or pay a bit extra to have access to the private pools. We highly recommend a visit at night to stargaze in this special area of New Zealand!
2. Get all your skiing needs
If you’re planning a holiday in Turangi, chances are a major drawcard for you will be the easy access to skiing at Mt Ruapehu! There are heaps of board games to enjoy while waiting for your food (anyone up for a round of snakes and ladders?) and the burgers are world-class! It is about as close as you can get to an authentic American style café in the Southern Hemisphere.
